Some updates are harder to share than others. ❤️ Some updates are harder to share than others. ❤️

I’ve gone back and forth about posting this because I never want this page to become all about my health. I love sharing recipes, DIYs, home projects, gardening, and all the things that bring me joy. But I also want this space to be real, and right now, this is part of my reality.

I share more in the carousel, but after meeting with my primary care provider last week, I’ll now be having MRIs of both my brain and my spine/back to hopefully get closer to some answers. While Chiari malformation is still a possibility, my doctor also wants to rule out other neurological conditions, like Multiple Sclerosis. Hearing that was incredibly overwhelming, and if I’m being honest, this past week has been one of the hardest mentally.

The waiting is exhausting. Waiting for appointments, waiting for tests, waiting for results… it feels like my life has been on pause while I wait to find out what’s causing all of these symptoms.

I also wanted to remind everyone that social media is often a highlight reel. Most of the content you see from me was planned and scheduled on days when I felt well enough to create. What you don’t see are the tears, the fear, the doctor’s appointments, the nights spent worrying, or the mental toll that comes with living in the unknown.

If there’s one thing I hope you take away from this post, it’s this: please be kind. You never truly know what someone is carrying behind the scenes. Invisible illnesses are just that- invisible.

And if you’re walking through your own health journey right now, I want you to know you’re not alone. This community has been such a source of comfort for me, and I’m so thankful for every message, prayer, and encouraging word you’ve sent my way. They truly mean more than you know. ❤️

If you pray, I’d really appreciate your prayers as I move through this next round of testing. I’m holding onto hope that we’ll finally get some answers. 🤍

Y’all… I need some advice. 😅 Has anyone ever had t Y’all… I need some advice. 😅 Has anyone ever had their pinky toenail almost completely fall off for absolutely no reason?

Mine is literally hanging on by one tiny corner (like 90% detached 🤢), and I can’t decide if I should just pull it off or leave it alone. The problem is it hurts every time I put on socks or shoes because it keeps catching and tugging. 😩

This actually happened to me years ago after wearing cowboy booties in Nashville that rubbed my pinky toes raw, and I ended up losing both pinky toenails. They eventually grew back completely normal, so I’m so confused why it’s happening again.

I haven’t stubbed my toe, I haven’t had a pedicure in over 6 weeks, and I’ve mostly been living in sandals all summer with my usual tennis shoes. So what in the world would make a toenail suddenly start falling off? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Should I just go ahead and pull it off since it’s barely attached, or leave it alone and let it come off on its own? Tell me what you would do because I’m officially accepting all the toenail advice I can get. 😂

And at this point, I guess my body has decided to rebel from the top of my head all the way down to my toenails. 🫠🤣 #toes #toenails #pinkytoe #pinkytoes #toenail

Crock Pot Ham Bone and Bean Soup

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

Since it’s the holiday season, I am sure you are going to have a ham once or twice during this time. And I am here to tell you, don’t throw away the leftover ham bone! You can reuse it to create this delicious crock pot ham bone and bean soup!

It’s the ultimate comfort food and tastes absolutely delicious. The ham hock gives it so much flavor! I promise once you try this recipe, you will definitely use the meaty ham bone time and time again for this recipe.

So be sure to save and bookmark this if you are having a Christmas ham coming up. We used a spiral cut ham for Thanksgiving dinner this year and once we were done with it, we used the bone to make this amazing soup.

And it was perfect timing too because the temperatures dropped so low here. So it was nice to have a warm, hearty soup to enjoy on a chilly day!

How Long Does a Ham Bone Last?

If you can’t make this soup right away, don’t worry! You can keep the ham bone in the fridge for up to 4 days. But, if you need longer than that, you can always freeze it! Just place ham bone in a freezer bag until ready to use. For best results, use within 3 months of freezing though!

Ingredients Needed For Crock Pot Ham Bone and Bean Soup

  • 1 (16-oz bag) Dried Navy Beans, about 2 ½ cups, sorted and rinsed (you could also use any kind of dry white beans as well such as cannellini beans or great northern beans)
  • 1 Smoked Ham Bone, or smoked ham hock
  • ½ large Onion, diced (about 1 cup)
  • 1 large Celery Rib, diced (about 1 cup)
  • 5 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Fresh Thyme, or ¼ teaspoon dried
  • 1 teaspoon Sea Salt, or to taste
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 6 cups chicken broth (or you can use water as well)
  • 1 large Carrot, diced (about 1 cup)
Before Cooking Soup
After adding all the ingredients into the crock pot.

Do I Need To Soak Dried Beans Beforehand?

It is recommended for this recipe to soak your dry beans overnight before cooking. However, if you’re pressed for time, you don’t have to. You will just have to cook the soup a little longer.

When I made this soup, I didn’t have time to soak my beans either. But, it turned out to be just fine cooking it a little longer instead.

Technically soaked beans can have a better texture though, so if you have time to soak them, do it!

How To Make Crock Pot Ham Bone and Bean Soup

Add your navy beans, celery, garlic, onion, thyme, salt, pepper, and ham bone to your crock pot. Add enough chicken broth to cover mixture by one inch. Also, I will link my crock pot here that I use as well in case you’re looking for a good one:

Alternatively, you can use water too if you don’t have chicken broth on hand. You may need to add some additional water or broth as it cooks.

Cover and cook on low for 6 hours if you are using soaked beans. If not, increase your cooking time to low for 9 hours for un-soaked beans.

After Cooking Soup

During the last hour of cooking, stir in the carrots. If you add in the carrots too early, they will cook too much and become a little mushy- ask me how I know! Lol I went ahead and added the carrots in at the beginning which was a mistake.

I couldn’t really taste them, although it didn’t affect the overall texture of the soup or anything like that. Once the beans are done, remove ham shank and be sure to get any extra ham left on it as well. Discard of any gristle or bones.

Crock Pot Ham Bone And Bean Soup
Ham Bone And Bean Soup
Be sure to remove all of the ham bone after cooking. But, get any extra ham off of it first!!

Add the delicious ham pieces back into the soup and enjoy! If you want a creamier soup, you can alway mash some of the beans with a potato masher or use an immersion blender as well.

How To Store Ham and Navy Bean Soup

If you have leftovers, which you may not since it is such a delicious soup; you can store the leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days.

This is also a great recipe for freezing as well if you would prefer to freeze your leftovers. I will say, when you are heating the soup back up, you may want to add in some additional broth or water.

The soup is very thick after sitting in the fridge so more broth will help it to thin out when reheating. I just empty my leftover soup into one of my Caraway Home Stock Pots and reheat the soup for a few minutes that way!

Enjoy Your Crock Pot Ham Bone and Bean Soup!

This recipe is definitely a favorite way to use up a leftover holiday ham bone! And in my opinion, it even tastes better the next day because all of the flavors have melded together more.

I also love how it is full of simple ingredients and it really makes for an easy dinner during soup season! Serve it with a side of cornbread and you are good to go!

If you try out this ham bone soup recipe, let me know what you think about it! I think you will love the depth of flavor a ham bone can add to a soup! Try it out and see for yourself!

But seriously though, one sip and you’ll see why this cozy fall drink is a fan favorite. Made with warm apple cider, cinnamon, caramel, and whipped cream, it tastes like autumn in a cup, and the best part? There’s no coffee, so it’s perfect for kids and anyone who isn’t a coffee drinker!

I finally shared my easy Starbucks copycat Caramel Apple Spice recipe on the blog, and it’s so simple to make at home whenever those fall cravings hit. 🤎 Comment “Recipe” below and I’ll send it straight to you!

Have you ever tried a Starbucks Caramel Apple Spice before, or will this be your first time? Let me know below! 👇🏻 And don’t forget to save this recipe for cozy season and share it with your fellow fall lovers!

Anyone else have this problem when you’re laying o Anyone else have this problem when you’re laying out by the pool or at the beach trying to read a good book? 😅

No matter what style, brand, or pair of sunglasses I buy, they ALWAYS slide down my nose the second I lay on my stomach. 🤦‍♀️ I’ve tried expensive ones, cheap ones, trendy ones—you name it. Same result every time!

At this point I’m convinced I either have a weirdly shaped face or gravity just has a personal vendetta against me. 😂

It’s honestly one of my biggest pool day pet peeves because I can never stay comfortable long enough to tan my back. So while the front of me is getting plenty of sunshine, the back is staying pale because I’m constantly giving up and rolling back over. ☀️🤣

Please tell me I’m not the only one! Do your sunglasses slide down your nose too, or have you found a magical pair that actually stays put? 👇😎

POV: You spend months growing a vegetable garden… POV: You spend months growing a vegetable garden… just to realize you’re actually gardening for the neighborhood deer. 😂🌱🦌

Apparently they decided to leave me exactly 4 cherry tomatoes and half a cucumber today. How thoughtful. 🤣

But wait until the end because you’ll see the sweetest little baby deer… and honestly, how am I supposed to stay mad after that?! 🥹❤️ They can have all the cherry tomatoes they want.

The only sad part? I haven’t harvested a single heirloom tomato this year because the deer keep eating them before they’re ripe enough to pick. 😅 I guess my garden has officially become a wildlife buffet.

Tell me I’m not the only one… What keeps eating your garden? Deer, squirrels, rabbits, or something else? ⬇️
