Well, guess who caused a little neighborhood excit Well, guess who caused a little neighborhood excitement this morning and had to call 911?! 🙋🏻‍♀️😅

It all started when our carbon monoxide detector kept going off. Naturally, I tried replacing the battery first, but that didn’t help. 🙃

So there I was, frantically trying to get ahold of my husband, who OF COURSE was in a meeting and couldn’t answer, while simultaneously trying to round up all three cats and get everyone outside. 😹

And what does any responsible 33-year-old adult woman do in a situation like this?! CALL HER MOM. 🤣

Literally called my mom to ask if I should call 911 because apparently I still need adult supervision when it comes to adulting. 😂

Well, the fire department showed up, checked everything out, and THANKFULLY there was no carbon monoxide leak! 🙌🏻

Turns out our carbon monoxide alarm was just old and needed replacing. It was over five years old! 🙃

So now I feel a little ridiculous for causing such a commotion, but better safe than sorry, right?!

AND in my defense, our gas fireplace hasn’t been working, and my husband was messing with it last night. So naturally, my mind went straight to a possible gas leak. 😬

Thankfully, everyone is safe, the cats are probably traumatized from their unexpected evacuation, and I’ve officially had enough excitement for one morning. 🤣

So here’s your friendly reminder to check your carbon monoxide detectors, replace them according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, and NEVER ignore an alarm! 🚨

And if you’re one of my neighbors, sorry about all the fire trucks and sirens this morning. Just your local neighborhood drama queen keeping things interesting! 😜

Please tell me I’m not the only grown adult who still calls their mom when something goes wrong?! 🤣👇

Also, shoutout to the fire department for being so nice and telling me I did the right thing by calling. That made me feel slightly less ridiculous at least 😜

#ad 🎃🐈‍⬛ Don’t throw away that empty cat litter ju #ad 🎃🐈‍⬛ Don’t throw away that empty cat litter jug… turn it into a Halloween boo basket for your cats instead! I’m partnering with @catspride today to put an empty Cat’s Pride litter jug to good use with the cutest little upcycling project. Since the jug was already the perfect Frankenstein green, I knew exactly what I wanted to make! 💚 After cleaning the empty jug thoroughly, we cut off the top to create a basket shape. Then I used my Cricut to add a Frankenstein face before filling it with some of Riley and Toby’s favorite cat treats and Halloween toys. And judging by Toby’s reaction to that catnip owl, I’d say this DIY cat boo basket was a success. 😹 And before the jug was transformed, Cat’s Pride made litter box duty a whole lot easier. I love the odor control and easy scooping, and Riley and Toby are always VERY interested when a fresh box of litter appears. 😂 So consider this your sign to save your next empty litter jug and get creative with it! DIY Halloween Cat Statue: Easy Target Cat Makeover

We all know by now that I’m a crazy cat mom, so when I spotted this adorable black Halloween cat statue at Target, obviously I couldn’t leave it alone. 😂

Instead of displaying it exactly as it came, I immediately thought, I could make that look like Charlie!

Charlie is my fluffy tuxedo cat, so the original black cat statue was the perfect blank canvas for a little DIY makeover. With just a few colors of craft paint and some patience, I transformed this Target Halloween decoration into a personalized Halloween cat statue that looks like my own cat.

And honestly? This may be one of my favorite easy Halloween DIYs yet!

I love taking affordable seasonal decor and adding my own personal touch, especially when I can somehow involve my cats in the process. And Charlie apparently loved this project too because she sat beside me and supervised almost the entire thing!

So, if you’re a fellow cat lover looking for a cute Halloween craft for cat moms, grab some paint and keep reading to see how easy it is to make your own DIY Halloween cat statue.

Easy Target Cat Makeover

This post also contains affiliate links, which means I make a small commission off anything you purchase through here, at no additional cost to you. Please read my full privacy policy for more details.

Materials Needed for a DIY Halloween Cat Statue

One of the best things about this easy Halloween craft is that you only need a handful of supplies.

Here’s what I used:

  • Black cat statue — I found mine in the Target Halloween section
  • Acrylic craft paint
  • White paint
  • Pink paint for Charlie’s nose
  • Green paint for Charlie’s eyes
  • Paint tray
  • Small craft paintbrushes

Of course, the paint colors you need will depend on your own cat.

That’s what makes this DIY so fun! You can completely customize your Halloween cat decoration to look like your pet, whether you have a tuxedo cat, tabby, calico, orange cat, gray cat, or anything in between.

Halloween Cat

How to Make a DIY Halloween Cat Statue

Once I had all of my supplies together, it was time to start my Target Halloween cat makeover.

And apparently Charlie knew I was painting her portrait because little Miss Charlie sat right beside me supervising the entire process. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her care this much about one of my DIY projects!

Maybe she was just making sure I got her good side. 😂

Inspiration Pic of Charlie
Here is my inspiration behind the statue!

Step 1: Use Your Cat as Inspiration

Before I started painting, I took a good look at Charlie’s markings so I could recreate them as closely as possible on the statue.

Since Charlie is a tuxedo cat, she has quite a bit of white fur on her face, chest, belly, and legs.

I wasn’t worried about making everything absolutely perfect. Part of the charm of this project is creating something that reminds you of your own pet rather than trying to paint a perfectly realistic portrait.

You could also keep a favorite photo of your cat nearby while you paint to use as a reference.

Supplies Needed For DIY Cat Statue

Step 2: Paint the Cat’s Fur Markings

I started with the white portions of Charlie’s fur because those were going to require the most work.

Since my Halloween cat statue started out completely black, it took about two coats of white paint to get good coverage.

I painted the face, chest, belly, and legs based on Charlie’s actual tuxedo markings, allowing the paint to dry between coats.

If you’re transforming a dark-colored statue into a lighter-colored cat, expect to need a couple of coats as well.

And don’t worry if the markings aren’t completely perfect. Real cats don’t exactly have perfectly symmetrical fur patterns either!

Painting DIY Cat Statue

Step 3: Add the Face Details

Once the white paint was dry, it was time for my favorite part—giving the statue Charlie’s little face.

I added:

  • Green eyes
  • A tiny pink nose
  • Charlie’s distinctive white facial markings
  • Her little eye whiskers

Her eye whiskers turned out slightly wonky, but honestly, they look a little wonky in real life too, so I decided that made the statue even more accurate. 😂

Using smaller paintbrushes for these details made it much easier to control the paint.

DIY Halloween Cat Statue

Step 4: Let Your Painted Cat Statue Dry

Once I was happy with all of the details, I let the paint dry completely before moving the statue.

And that was it!

This DIY painted cat statue really is such an easy Halloween project, but customizing it to look like Charlie made it feel so much more special than simply buying another piece of seasonal decor.

Charlie Inspecting The Statue

Can You Customize This Halloween Cat DIY for Other Cats?

Absolutely!

Even though I turned my black Target Halloween cat into a tuxedo cat, you could recreate this project to resemble almost any cat.

For example, you could paint your statue to look like a:

  • Tuxedo cat
  • Orange tabby
  • Gray tabby
  • Calico
  • Tortie
  • Siamese
  • Solid white cat
  • Solid black cat

You could even make multiple statues if you have more than one cat—which is probably dangerous information for me to know considering I have three. 😂

Painting With Charlie

Where to Display Your DIY Halloween Cat Decor

Once your personalized cat statue is finished, there are so many cute ways to incorporate it into your Halloween home decor.

Display it on a bookshelf, Halloween mantel, entryway table, front porch, dining room hutch, or alongside your pumpkins and other spooky-season decorations.

I love Halloween decorations that lean more spooky cute than actually scary, so this little Charlie-inspired cat fits perfectly with the rest of my seasonal decor.

And because it looks like one of my own cats, it feels much more personal than something I simply picked up at the store.

Make Your Own Personalized Halloween Cat Statue

See how fun and easy this DIY Halloween cat statue is?!

All it took was an inexpensive seasonal decoration and a little craft paint to create a personalized piece of Halloween decor inspired by Charlie.

But I think my favorite part of the whole project was having the real Charlie sitting beside me watching her mini-me come to life. It was cracking me up!

If you’re a fellow crazy cat mom looking for a fun Halloween craft for cat lovers, keep an eye out for inexpensive cat statues while you’re shopping this fall. With a little paint, you can transform one into a custom Halloween decoration that looks just like your own furry best friend.

And now I need to know: would you paint one to look like your cat?!

Apparently being a homebody is a personality trait Apparently being a homebody is a personality trait now… and I’m fully embracing it. 😂

Sorry, but staying home with my cats, reading a good book, and being cozy sounds WAY better than having plans. 📚🐈

Don’t get me wrong, you might catch me out and about every once in a while… but just know I’ll need approximately 2–3 business days at home afterward to recover from all that socializing. 🤣

At this point, my ideal weekend is canceled plans, comfy clothes, a good book, and my cats nearby. Homebody life just suits me. 👏🏻

Too early to start Christmas crafting?! I think no Too early to start Christmas crafting?! I think not! 😜🎄

I had some extra oyster shells left over from our beach trip this summer, so instead of letting them sit around, I turned them into these DIY oyster shell Christmas ornaments! You may remember I turned some of the shells into cute little ghosts for Halloween too 👻 But now we’re officially moving on to Christmas crafts!

And I am obsessed with how these turned out! All I needed was some spray paint, pretty wrapping paper, Mod Podge, twine, and hot glue to transform ordinary oyster shells into high-end looking coastal Christmas ornaments.

Not only are these such a pretty addition to your Christmas tree, but they’re also a sweet vacation keepsake! Every year when you pull them out, you’ll have a little reminder of that summer beach trip. 🥹

I always decorate my Christmas tree with gold, so these are going to fit in perfectly with my Christmas decor this year! 🎄

Things we’re ghosting this season: waiting until N Things we’re ghosting this season: waiting until November 1st to decorate for Christmas. 🤣

Sorry, but some of us have approximately 57 Christmas trees to put up, and that kind of commitment takes TIME. 😜🎄

And if you think I’m waiting until Halloween is over to start decorating for Christmas, you’ve got another thing coming. 🤣 I may or may not already have a few trees up around the house. 🤫

Listen, I love spooky season just as much as the next person, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having pumpkins AND Christmas trees out at the same time. It’s called balance, okay?! 👻🎄

So consider waiting until November to decorate for Christmas officially GHOSTED. ✌🏻

Now tell me, are you team Christmas decorating in October or team wait until after Thanksgiving?! 👀
Bless my poor husband’s heart because when he marr Bless my poor husband’s heart because when he married me, I don’t think he realized he was signing up for a lifetime of Christmas decorating chaos! 😂

But when you’re a Christmas-obsessed wife who believes EVERY single room in the house deserves its own Christmas tree, you have to start decorating early, right?! 🎅🏻

I mean, putting up multiple Christmas trees, hanging garland, and transforming our entire home into a cozy Christmas wonderland takes TIME! So obviously, October is a perfectly reasonable time to start decorating for Christmas. At least that’s what I keep telling him! 😜

Thankfully, after 10 years of marriage, he knows the drill and just goes along with all my crazy Christmas decorating ideas. He’s a keeper for sure! ❤️

And when it’s time to stock up on fresh litter, check out Cat’s Pride for your own feline crew. 🐾 Would you make a Halloween boo basket for your cats?! 🎃👇🏻

POV: You finally decide it’s time to tell your ado POV: You finally decide it’s time to tell your adopted daughter the truth about her biological mother… and she is NOT taking the news well. 😭🤣😹

Poor Riley! The look of absolute SHOCK on her face when she hears about her past! 🤣 I swear, the dramatic reactions of cats are just too funny sometimes!

But here’s a fun fact about our little rescue kitty! 🐈‍⬛ When we adopted Riley, my mom actually adopted her biological mama, Smoke! So technically, Riley’s mom lives with her grandma now. 🤣 Which means we can visit her anytime we want!

So don’t worry, Riley! We know exactly where you came from, and your mama is living her best life too! 😹❤️

Please tell me I’m not the only crazy cat mom who makes up dramatic storylines about her cats?! 🤣

• 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
• 1 oz ranch seasoning (1 packet)
• ¼ cup chopped green onions
• ½ cup chopped bacon or bacon bits
