Ingredients for Halloween Oreo Cookies
You only need a handful of simple ingredients to make these Halloween chocolate cookies with Oreos.
You’ll Need:
- 1 ⅓ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- 6 ounces unsalted butter (1½ sticks), softened to room temperature
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup packed dark brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or vanilla paste
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 10–12 Halloween Oreos, coarsely chopped
- Additional chopped Halloween Oreos for topping
Can I Use Regular Oreos?
Absolutely!
The orange creme in Halloween Oreos makes these cookies extra festive, but regular Oreos will work if you can’t find the seasonal version.
You could also experiment with other seasonal Oreo varieties throughout the year using the same basic cookie recipe.

How to Make Halloween Oreo Cookies
These cookies are simple to prepare, but you’ll want to allow at least 30 minutes for the dough to chill before baking.
Step 1: Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, kosher salt, and baking soda until evenly combined.
Set the mixture aside while you prepare the wet ingredients.
Step 2: Cream the Butter and Sugar
Add the softened butter to the bowl of a stand mixer and beat until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
Add the granulated sugar and dark brown sugar and continue mixing for another 2–3 minutes.
Stop occasionally to scrape down the sides of the bowl so everything combines evenly.
Step 3: Add the Egg and Vanilla
Add the room-temperature egg and vanilla extract or vanilla paste.
Mix until everything is completely combined.
Step 4: Add the Dry Ingredients
Slowly add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients.
Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix the cookie dough.
The finished dough should be thick and fudgy.
Step 5: Add the Halloween Oreos
Gently fold the coarsely chopped Halloween Oreos into the chocolate cookie dough.
Try not to crush them too finely—you want plenty of visible Oreo pieces throughout each cookie.

Do You Need to Chill Halloween Oreo Cookie Dough?
Yes! I recommend chilling the cookie dough for at least 30 minutes before baking.
Cover the dough and place it in the refrigerator. While it’s chilling, preheat your oven to 325°F.
Chilling gives the dough time to firm up before you form and bake the cookies.

How to Bake Halloween Oreo Cookies
Once the cookie dough has chilled, remove it from the refrigerator.
Scoop the dough into approximately 2-inch cookie dough balls.
Place additional chopped Halloween Oreos in a shallow bowl or plate. Gently press the top of each cookie dough ball into the Oreo pieces so they adhere to the dough.
This extra step is what makes the finished cookies look so good!
Arrange the cookie dough balls on a prepared baking sheet, leaving enough room between each cookie for spreading.
Bake in the preheated 325°F oven for 10–12 minutes.
Once they’re finished baking, allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for approximately 15 minutes before moving or enjoying them.

How to Store Halloween Oreo Cookies
Store leftover Halloween Oreo cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
Although, if your house is anything like mine, getting them to last three days may be the bigger challenge. 😂

When to Serve Halloween Oreo Cookies
These cookies are such a fun addition to just about any spooky-season celebration.
Make them for a Halloween party, Halloween movie marathon, fall get-together, school event, Halloween dessert board, or simply for a fun weekend baking project.
You could even package a few in a cute Halloween treat bag and give them to friends or neighbors.

Easy Halloween Dessert Without Decorating
One of my favorite things about these cookies is how festive they look with almost no decorating required.
Don’t get me wrong—I love a cute decorated Halloween treat. But sometimes I don’t want to break out five different colors of icing, piping bags, candy eyes, sprinkles, and everything else.
With these Halloween Oreo cookies, the orange creme and chopped Oreos create that spooky-season look for you.
Less work AND more Oreos? I’m sold.
