Ingredients Needed To Make Apple Crisp:
As you can see below, the ingredients are very simple and minimal! In fact, you probably have most of them on hand already!
For the filling:
- 4 cups apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (you can use frozen or fresh apples)
- 1/2 cup granulated white sugar
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
For the topping:
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats (I like to use the Quaker Oats brand)
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup cold butter
How To Make Quaker Oats Apple Crisp Recipe:
First, spray a 8×8 baking dish with cooking spray and preheat your oven to 350 degrees. In a large bowl, mix together the apples, sugar, flour, salt and cinnamon.

Make sure all the apples are coated well, then place apples into prepared baking dish. To make the topping, use a medium bowl and combine the old fashioned oats, brown sugar, flour, baking soda, and baking powder.

Slice the cold butter into small chunks and then, using a pastry blender, cut in the cold butter to the mix. You can also use your fingers too if you don’t have a pastry blender.

Just get it to a sandy texture and then sprinkle it evenly on top of the apples, pressing the topping down into an even layer on top of the apples.

Place pan into preheated oven for about 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is a nice golden brown color and the apples are bubbling.

Allow pan to cool slightly before serving and serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce if desired.

Let cool to room temperature and then store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can reheat and serve as desired too.

What Kind Of Apples Should I Use?
There are many different types of apples you can use for this recipe. Preferably ones that are great to bake with such as Granny Smith apples or Golden Delicious.
Tart apples are perfect for an apple filling. Or you can even do a mix of apples. However, I did not have any on hand and just used fuji apples instead and it turned out just fine!
Should I Bake This Apple Crisp Longer If Using Frozen Apple Slices?
Yes, as I mentioned earlier I used my frozen apple slices. And since they were still kind of cold, I added some extra baking time. Mine took a total of 55 minutes before it was completely done and golden brown around the topping.
So if you’re using frozen apple slices too, be sure to account for extra bake time. Or be sure to completely thaw them out before using them in this recipe.
Enjoy This Apple Crisp Recipe!
Well, I hope you love this recipe just as much as I did! There’s nothing like a mix of tender apples paired with a crunchy topping and vanilla ice cream!
I love the crunch that the oatmeal topping brings. It’s very similar to an apple crumble or apple cobbler too. And you get all the flavors of an apple pie here without all the work!
I think any kind of fruit crisps make for a delicious dessert, don’t you?! And since it’s apple season, I just had to include a yummy apple dessert with a delicious crumbly topping.
