Whenever I have a bad day at work, I remind myself that I need that paycheck so my cats can stay home all day, nap in peace, eat snacks, and live their best spoiled-cat lives. 😂

This first week back at work has been ROUGH, y’all. I miss being home with my fur babies more than anything. Honestly, I think my true calling in life is being a stay-at-home cat mom. 🐾

But unfortunately, someone has to pay for the treats, toys, fancy food, and all the other necessities required to maintain this luxury cat lifestyle. And that someone is me. 😅

The funniest part? I don’t even think little Miss Riley misses me. As long as the food bowl stays full and the treats keep coming, she’s perfectly content living her best life while I’m out here working my butt off. 🤣

Anyone else with a chronic illness immediately Goo Anyone else with a chronic illness immediately Google every possible side effect before starting a new medication? Because I swear if there’s a rare reaction listed, somehow I’m the lucky winner. 🤣

Being chronically ill means I’ve tried my fair share of medications over the years, and my body always seems to have a mind of its own. If a medicine is supposed to make people sleepy, I’ll be wide awake all night. If there’s a tiny chance of an adverse reaction, somehow I’m usually that tiny percentage. 😅

So starting a new medication is always a little nerve-wracking for me. Part of me is hopeful it’ll finally provide some relief, and the other part is preparing for whatever random side effect my body decides to throw my way.

Here’s hoping this one actually helps my symptoms without adding a whole new list of problems. 🤞😂

Vintage Americana decor has my heart ❤️🤍💙 There’s Vintage Americana decor has my heart ❤️🤍💙

There’s just something about decorating with old red, white, and blue treasures that makes a home feel extra cozy for summer. I love styling my dining room shelves with vintage Americana pieces, antique finds, and patriotic decor that can stay up from Memorial Day all the way through the Fourth of July and beyond!

Give me all the weathered flags, vintage crocks, old books, and classic Americana touches. 🇺🇸

I know some people pack away their patriotic decorations after July 4th, but I love leaving my summer patriotic decor out all season long. It just feels timeless to me!

POV: being on surgery recovery leave for a month t POV: being on surgery recovery leave for a month turned me into a full-time homebody 🤣

Honestly, staying home healing after surgery has taught me one thing… I never want to leave my house again 😂 Being cozy at home with my cats, resting, binge watching shows, and avoiding the outside world has been absolutely glorious. I truly understand the “stay at home cat mom” lifestyle now lol.

At this point, I have everything I need right here at home. Peace, comfy clothes, snacks, my pets, and zero social obligations 🤣 Meanwhile, every time I actually leave the house, I come back completely exhausted.

So the fact that I have to go back to work today after a month of recovery is honestly going to be SUCH a rough adjustment 😅 I’m not mentally prepared to rejoin society yet lol. Anyone else secretly love being home way too much?!

Honestly, I’ve been struggling with the thought of Honestly, I’ve been struggling with the thought of going back to work while still recovering from surgery. Between the physical healing and the emotional side of post-surgery recovery, I’ve been feeling pretty down lately. So this comedy date night ended up being exactly what I needed.

We bought tickets to see @johnbcrist months ago, long before I had any idea I’d be spending a month on surgery leave. Turns out the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. This was our third time seeing him live, and he absolutely delivered. I laughed so hard that for a couple of hours, I completely forgot about returning to work, ongoing recovery, and all the stress waiting for me next week. 🤣

Before the show, we had dinner at @redgingerasianbistro and finished the night with dessert at @timesbarandcoffee which made the whole evening even better. Good food, lots of laughs, and quality time with my husband was exactly the distraction I needed.

Sometimes healing isn’t just about physical recovery. Sometimes it’s about finding little moments that remind you how good it feels to laugh again. ❤️

Not me having to put on my sunglasses every time I Not me having to put on my sunglasses every time I have to chop onions because my eyes tear up so bad… 🤣

Ever since I had LASIK surgery a few years ago, chopping onions has been brutal on my eyes. I’m talking instant tears the second I start cutting them 😂 Apparently my eyes became extra sensitive afterward, and honestly it’s been a struggle ever since.

But then I heard about the “wear sunglasses while chopping onions” hack and y’all… why does it actually work?! 😅 So now anytime my hubby isn’t home to take over onion duty, you can catch me in the kitchen wearing sunglasses indoors looking ridiculous but tear-free 😎

If you’ve ever wondered how to stop crying while cutting onions, consider this your sign to try the sunglasses trick! It may look silly, but it seriously helps block those onion fumes from hitting your eyes 👏

Now I need to know… does anyone else have weird kitchen hacks like this? 😂 #kitchenhacks #cookinghacks #onionhack #cookinghack #onions

One of my all-time favorite freezer meals is this homemade chicken pot pie recipe 🥧✨ It definitely takes a little extra work, especially if you make the homemade pie crust from scratch; but trust me, it is SO worth it. The creamy chicken filling, flaky buttery crust, and cozy comfort food vibes make it one of the best dinners ever.

Anytime I make homemade chicken pot pie, I always make two: one for dinner now and one freezer meal for later. And this time, I took my extra frozen chicken pot pie to my sweet mama after her surgery yesterday 💛 It’s honestly the perfect meal to bring someone recovering from surgery, welcoming a new baby, or just going through a hard season because all they have to do is pop it in the oven for an easy homemade comfort meal.

If you love easy freezer meals, homemade comfort food recipes, or make-ahead dinners for busy families, you definitely need to try this one!

I can’t believe it’s officially been one month sin I can’t believe it’s officially been one month since my endometriosis excision surgery. Honestly, I really thought by now I’d be coming on here saying I finally felt like myself again. I wanted this surgery to be the answer so badly. But the truth is… I’m still struggling every single day.

The lower back pain, hip pain, chronic fatigue, GI issues, insomnia, dizziness, and POTS-like symptoms are all still here. And while my surgeon was absolutely wonderful and removed the endometriosis she found, we’re now starting to realize there may be something more going on underneath it all.

Right now we’re exploring possibilities like EDS, MCAS, and POTS, which honestly feels overwhelming because getting doctors to truly listen and take women seriously can feel like a full time job in itself. I know so many women with chronic illness, endometriosis, and invisible illnesses understand exactly what I mean.

But even though I’m discouraged, I’m not giving up. I know my body, I know something still isn’t right, and I’ll continue advocating for myself until I get answers. And if sharing my story helps even one woman feel less alone in her own health journey, then it’s worth it 🤍 #chronicillnessawareness #chronicillnesswarrior #endometriosis #endometriosisexcision #chronicallyill

There’s nothing better than a big plate of spaghetti with homemade meat sauce, especially when the crockpot does all the work for you! Just toss everything in, let it simmer low and slow all day, and your house smells AMAZING 🤤

How To Choose the Right Rug For Your Home

I always think one of the most difficult things about home decor and styling, is how to choose the right rug for your home. There are a lot of factors that go into to choosing the perfect rug, so it can be a little daunting when it comes to choosing the perfect one. I am here to give you all the advice and tips I have learned along the way when choosing rugs!

This post contains affiliate links. Click here to read my disclosure policy.

How to Choose the Right Rug for your home
Here you can see I chose a neutral dining room rug. Although, eventually I think I would like to upgrade the size to a little larger rug!

Choosing a Room

First of all, when deciding on a rug, you need to nail down which room you want it in. Personally, I like having rugs in every room because it helps break up all the hardwood floors that we have. I also like how it adds a little coziness to every room too.

But, if it isn’t in the budget for you right now to do multiple rooms, then choose one that is the most priority to you.

How to Choose the Right Rug
We have a shaggy carpet style of rug in our bedroom, which we love for the comfort of it, but it is definitely a challenge to keep clean! Most of vacuums don’t work on it because the shag carpet is too long and it gets caught up in it.

I would recommend the living room or an area that you will use a lot, especially when you have company over. I always want my guests to feel comfy and cozy when visiting.

And I think having a nice, plush rug in the space helps achieve that goal.

Choosing a Material

Now that you have nailed down what room to place your rug in, you need to determine what material you want your rug to be.

Do you want something soft and comfy, or something more natural like jute? There are so many options and there really isn’t any right or wrong answer.

Choose what you think you will love the most!

How to choose the right rug for your office
My office rug is from Natural Area Rugs and I love it! I love how all of their rugs are made from natural materials as well.

Also, keep in mind if it is a high volume area, you might want to choose a material that is easy to clean.

Thinking of all these things in advance will help you narrow down your choices in rug options. It can be a little overwhelming when you first start looking, so that’s why I think it is best to sit down and brainstorm everything first.

Choosing a Size

Another important thing to consider on how to choose the right rug for you, is the size of the rug. I always have a hard time visualizing the size so I recommend taking a tape measure to the space to be sure!

It really helps you see it more so when you can map it out. We recently got a new rug for our living room and I am blown away by how large it is!

How to choose the right rug for your Living Room
This was the rug we had previously in the living room. As you can see, it is beautiful, but just a little too small for the space. I am planning on moving it to our guest bedroom since that room is a little smaller in size.

However, we were definitely in the market for a larger rug. The one we had in here previously was only a 5′ by 7″ and while I loved the pattern and color to it, it just wasn’t large enough for the space.

Our new one we got from Boutique Rugs and it is 8’10” by 12’3″, so talk about a major upgrade! It definitely helps fill our living room space more and I am so happy with the size of it.

I am loving the new living room rug here!

I am also happy to announce that I am partnering with Boutique Rugs for the month of May and I have a coupon code for you guys to use as well! Just use “MACEDONIA55” when checking out to receive 55% off your total.

I am blown away by the quality of their rugs and I have a feeling this will be my go to rug company when I need to order some new ones too!

Choosing a Color/Pattern

Now, here is the fun part- choosing a color and pattern for your rug! I love this because you can really show your creativity here and do something fun or unexpected.

Or, you can also keep it traditional and neutral! I am more of a neutral gal myself, because I like to throw in some color easily by throws and pillows, but you can totally go more bold here in your rug if you want to!

How to choose the right rug for outdoors
I do tend to go a little more bold and playful with my outdoor rugs, as you can see here!

Again, it is probably a good idea to go ahead and have somewhat of a game plan as to what color you want before you start shopping, just to make it easier on you.

I always like to know what color I am searching for first and then filter rugs by colors; that way I don’t get distracted by all the other color options out there.

How to choose the right style of rug for your home
Pin for later!

I hope these tips and tricks help you when are trying to choose the right rug for your home. I really think the rug lays the foundation for the room and then you can decorate and style the room however you want to after that!

What about y’all? Do you have any favorites when it comes to choosing a rug for your home?

This was a great post! I love having rugs in my home, I got them almost everywhere. We moved last year to a bigger home and I am still looking around for some new rugs to add, especially in the living room area. The rug we have there was perfect for the smaller home we had then, but now it is a bit out of place. For now no budget (good rugs aren’t too cheap) but I am still looking around and loving the ones you have in your home.

Great information! I had to replace my old kitchen/dining rug a few months back and it was tough to find the right product at the right price in the right color/style in the right size. The size and color were my biggest concerns and I had to keep an eye on what material it was since I’m allergic to wool! I also like to stick with thinner style rugs that are slightly plush to the touch, those are my favorite because they still look and feel great but are easy clean! Thanks for sharing!

In my flat rugs have made a big change! I have a pretty small flat and it’s more like studio-type but rugs made it look bigger and split it into sections. When guests come, they automatically stay where are the guest zone and I think, here my rug does a lot of work! Near bedroom I have very fluffy rug and you know, no one goes there – it looks like another room, just without walls!

I am always conflicted with rugs though because as an OT (Occupational Therapist) we always recommend people not to have rugs because of the trip/falls hazards they can make, especially to older people who are prone to falls.

POV: You had a rough day at work, but then you rem POV: You had a rough day at work, but then you remember you’re funding your cat’s luxury lifestyle. 😹

Any other cat parents feel like they’re just employees funding their pets’ dreams? 🐱💸 #stayathomecat #stayathomecatmom #catmom #catmomproblems #catmomprobs

Tell me I’m not the only one who reads the side effects before taking a new prescription! 👇 #sideeffects #medicationsideeffects #chronicallyill #chronicillnesslife #chronicillnessmemes

Y’all already know I’ve been on a serious freezer Y’all already know I’ve been on a serious freezer meal kick lately since I unfortunately have to go back to work next week 😭 And let me tell you… having a freezer stocked full of easy homemade dinners is about to save me on those busy weeknights!

Meanwhile, his shiny new truck is sitting safe and spotless in the garage where not a single speck of dirt or potting soil can touch it 😂🚙
