The Best Allergy Free Laundry Detergent

I’ve recently been on a journey to swap all of our cleaning and laundry products to a more safe, non-toxic brand that actually works well. And after a few trial and errors, I have found the best allergy free laundry detergent.

I have been having trouble with my skin breaking out in rashes lately and we aren’t really sure what’s causing it. So I figured, I need to start changing some things in our home to avoid further skin irritation.

I’m sure the harsh chemicals from conventional detergents were not helping things at all. And no one wants to have allergic reactions to their liquid detergent they are using.

I have tried a few different hypoallergenic detergents the past few months, such as Seventh Generation and Mrs. Meyer. And while those two products were a great option, I still have a more favorite, gentle laundry detergent in mind.

Laundry Detergent Scents

Even if you choose one with a scent, there is no lingering scent thanks to the fact that Rustic Strength Detergents do not contain any optical brighteners or chemical binders. Those are the elements that allow the scents to linger and remain in your fabrics.

How Long Will This Detergent Last?

As mentioned above, this product lasts loner than your standard detergents. But, here is a guideline for how long you should expect each product to last:

• Half Gallon Jug— 128 loads
• Gallon Jug— 256 loads
• 5 Gallon Jug— 1280 loads

How Much Detergent Should I Add?

The following amounts of detergent are recommended:

• 1/2 oz light soiled / small load
• 1 oz activewear / medium load
• 2 oz heavy soiled / large load

But, be sure to not overflow your washing machine. It is not recommended to fill the tub of your machine up with clothes. This product will work better if you do a medium sized load and about 1 oz of detergent to go with it.

You can even purchase a Rustic Strength measuring pump for your jug of detergent and it will pump out exactly 1 oz each time! If you notice lots of bubbles in your machine after use, decrease the amount of detergent you are using.

It is also recommended to use their Oxiboost to help soften the water if you have hard water at home. 

Ingredient List

As I mentioned above, Rustic Strength Detergent is made with plant-based ingredients and fewer ingredients that do not contain harmful chemicals.

“Cocamidopropyl Hydroxysultaine • Naturally derived from coconut, palm-free, it is an environmentally friendly and biodegradable surfactant with high foaming and mild chemistry.

Sodium C14-C16 Olefin Sulfonate • Derived from coconuts, palm-free, this mild-surfactant helps to lift dirt and debris from surfaces, so the water can whisk them away. Biodegradable. 

Cocamidopropyl Betaine • Naturally derived from coconut and palm-free. It is an environmentally friendly, high-foaming, and biodegradable surfactant.

Decyl Glucoside • A plant-derived, biodegradable surfactant. It is mild and safe for sensitive skin.

Sodium Gluconate • Natural mineral, helps grab onto and remove foreign contaminants.

Sodium Citrate • Natural mineral, helps grab onto and remove pollutants.

Sodium Carbonate • Natural mineral, helps pull dirt out of garment fibers.

Vegetable Glycerin• Derived from vegetables. It is biodegradable and helps the plant surfactants do their job. Food-grade & USP kosher.

Dimethyl 9-Decenamide • A plant-based, biodegradable nonionic surfactant that helps clean and removes grease and other substances.

 Capryl Caprylyl Glucoside • A biodegradable plant-based surfactant with mild chemistry and sensitive skin compatibility.

Polysorbate 20 • Plant-based performance stabilizer. Helps in the spreadability of liquids and stabilizes the formula when adding essential oils and phthalate-free fragrances. Biodegradable. USP kosher. Food-Grade. Dioxane-free. 

Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol • Safe preservatives used sparingly, prevents bacteria from growing in container.”

Laundry Tips and Tricks

If you have a lot of stubborn stains, you can actually place a little detergent on the stain itself and scrub the fabric. Some of the tough stains can also be removed with their Oxyboost product as well.

And of course, some stains respond better with cold water while some do better in hot water. And you want to make sure your washing machine is actually clean too for best laundry performance.
