We recently took our very first trip to Hilton Head Island, and let me just say… it completely exceeded our expectations—especially when it comes to the food scene!
If you know us, you know we’re huge foodies, so one of our favorite parts of traveling is discovering the best restaurants in Hilton Head Island and sharing our honest recommendations. And thankfully, this coastal gem did not disappoint.
From fresh seafood to waterfront dining and unforgettable desserts, every place we tried was incredible. So if you’re planning a trip and searching for where to eat in Hilton Head, here are the best restaurants you need to add to your list 👇

Benny’s Coastal Kitchen (Best Waterfront Dinner Spot)
Benny’s Coastal Kitchen was the perfect way to kick off our trip and is easily one of the best dinner spots in Hilton Head Island.

The atmosphere is cozy yet upscale, with a beautiful outdoor space featuring games like cornhole, plus a rooftop and tapas bar overlooking the water. Even though the weather wasn’t perfect, the ocean views were still stunning.

What we ordered:
- Hushpuppies & skillet shrimp (the sauce was unreal 🤤)
- Seared mahi mahi & swordfish (super fresh and flavorful)
- Key lime cheesecake with toasted meringue (still dreaming about this!)

👉 If you’re looking for fresh seafood and waterfront views in Hilton Head, this place is a must.

Coast Oceanfront Dining (Best Oceanfront Restaurant)
Next up was Coast Oceanfront Dining, and the ocean views alone make this one worth visiting.
We sat outside, and it was such a peaceful, scenic dinner experience—perfect for a date night or relaxing evening.

What we loved:
- Sweet corn risotto with fried shrimp & pickled red onions (creamy and packed with flavor)
- Coconut cake with caramel sauce (even if you’re not a coconut fan… trust me on this one!)

👉 This is one of the best oceanfront restaurants in Hilton Head for both views and flavor.

Quarterdeck (Best Lunch Spot in Harbour Town)
Located in the iconic Harbour Town, Quarterdeck is perfect for a casual lunch with unbeatable views.
We sat right by the water watching yachts come into the harbor—such a fun experience!

What we tried:
- Firecracker shrimp (so good 🔥)
- Crawfish egg rolls (not my favorite, but worth trying!)
- Drinks with a view 🍹

👉 Come here for a laid-back lunch in Harbour Town with waterfront views.

The Salty Dog Café (Most Iconic Hilton Head Restaurant)
You cannot visit Hilton Head Island without stopping by The Salty Dog Cafe—it’s one of the most famous restaurants on the island.

We actually biked here (highly recommend!) and loved the fun, lively atmosphere.

Why you’ll love it:
- Waterfront location with live music 🎶
- Nearby shops and boutiques
- Famous saltwater taffy with your check 🍬

What we ordered:
- Snow crab clusters (10/10 if you love crab legs!)
- Fried fish platter (fresh and delicious)

👉 This is a must-visit Hilton Head restaurant for the full experience.
The Sage Room (Best Fine Dining Experience)
If you’re looking for a high-end dining experience in Hilton Head, The Sage Room should be at the top of your list.

We booked the chef’s table (highly recommend!) about 3 months in advance, and it was hands-down one of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had.

Watching the chefs work together was mesmerizing, and every dish was perfection.
What we ordered:
- Spicy beef roll (amazing starter)
- Chilean sea bass (buttery and melt-in-your-mouth)
- Reserve ribeye (perfectly cooked)
- Bread pudding (so good we forgot to take a picture 😅)

👉 This was easily our favorite restaurant in Hilton Head for both food and experience.

Java Burrito Co (Best Casual Lunch Spot in Hilton Head)
If you’re looking for a quick, fresh, and affordable place to eat in Hilton Head Island, then Java Burrito Co. is an absolute must-try.

The line was literally out the door when we arrived—which is always a good sign—and trust me… it was 100% worth the wait. This spot is perfect for a laid-back lunch after a beach day or exploring the island.

One of the best things about Java Burrito is how customizable everything is. Whether you’re craving a burrito, tacos, bowl, or quesadilla, you can build it exactly how you want with your choice of protein and toppings. They even had fresh mahi mahi, which is perfect if you’re wanting that local seafood twist.

What we ordered:
- Steak burrito (packed with flavor and super filling)
- Chicken burrito (just as delicious!)
- Chips and queso (a must-add 🧀)
- Lime & peach margaritas (some of the best we’ve had 🍹)

And let’s talk about their famous homemade hot sauce… I’m not usually a hot sauce person, but this one completely changed my mind. It’s so good that even visitors attending the RBC Heritage come here specifically for it—which tells you everything you need to know.

Another bonus? There’s a coffee bar inside, so you can stop in for breakfast, lunch, or just a quick caffeine fix while exploring. It’s easily one of the most versatile and best casual restaurants in Hilton Head Island.

👉 If you’re searching for the best burritos and quick bites in Hilton Head, this spot belongs on your list.
Harbourside (Best Casual Seafood Spot in Sea Pines)
If you’re exploring Sea Pines Resort and looking for a casual waterfront bite in Hilton Head Island, then Harbourside is a great spot to add to your list.
This laid-back, open-air eatery offers beautiful harbor views, live music, and classic coastal vibes, making it the perfect place to relax and grab a quick bite between activities.
We stopped here before dinner one day because I was craving a “snack”… and by snack, I obviously mean crab legs 😂

What we ordered:
- Snow crab legs (so fresh and satisfying!)
- Curly fries (crispy, salty, and the perfect side)

The combination was simple but so good—exactly what you want when you’re enjoying the coastal atmosphere.
One of the best parts? They had live music playing the entire time, which made the experience even more fun and relaxing. It’s the kind of place where you can sit back, enjoy the views, and soak in those classic Hilton Head waterfront vibes.
👉 If you’re looking for a casual seafood restaurant in Sea Pines with live music and harbor views, Harbourside is definitely worth a stop.
Red Fish (Best Fine Dining Seafood Restaurant in Hilton Head)
If you’re searching for an upscale dining experience in Hilton Head Island, then Red Fish is definitely one of the best fine dining restaurants in Hilton Head Island to add to your list.

This spot offers a beautiful, elegant atmosphere inside, along with a few outdoor tables if you prefer dining al fresco. It’s perfect for a date night, special occasion, or elevated dinner experience on the island.

What we ordered:
- Fried shrimp rolls (crispy, flavorful, and a great starter)
- Complimentary bread & butter with a fresh green sauce (so unique and so good!)
- Chilean sea bass (my go-to 🤍)
- Ribeye steak (perfectly cooked and full of flavor)

The Chilean sea bass here was delicious and paired with flavorful noodles, but I will say it had a noticeable kick from the wasabi. If you love a little spice, you’ll probably love this dish. Personally, I preferred the version at The Sage Room since it was a bit more mild—but that’s just personal preference!

Overall, the food, atmosphere, and presentation made this a standout experience.

👉 If you’re looking for fine dining seafood in Hilton Head Island with a unique twist, Red Fish is absolutely worth checking out.
