Yep, you read that right! I actually repurposed an old Cat’s Pride litter container into the cutest little Frankenstein boo basket for cats!
Not only is this an easy and budget-friendly Halloween DIY project, but it’s also a great way to reuse something that would otherwise end up in the trash. And since the litter jug is already bright green, it makes the perfect base for a Frankenstein-inspired Halloween basket!

What Is a Cat Boo Basket?
If you’ve never heard of a boo basket before, it’s basically a fun little Halloween gift basket filled with treats, toys, and other seasonal goodies!
Think of it like an Easter basket, but for Halloween instead!
And while boo baskets are usually made for kids, friends, or significant others, I personally think our pets deserve to get in on the Halloween fun too!
That’s where this DIY cat boo basket comes in!
You can fill it with your cat’s favorite treats, Halloween-themed cat toys, catnip goodies, and anything else you think your feline friend would enjoy.
And honestly, is there anything cuter than watching your cats investigate a basket full of new toys?!
I think not! 😹
How to Make a DIY Cat Boo Basket Using an Old Litter Jug
One of my favorite things about this project is that you don’t have to spend a bunch of money on supplies to make something adorable.
In fact, you might already have most of the materials you need at home!
Instead of purchasing a new Halloween basket, I decided to repurpose an empty Cat’s Pride litter jug.
We use Cat’s Pride litter for our cats, and I realized that the bright green plastic container would make the perfect Frankenstein face!
So naturally, my DIY-loving brain immediately started coming up with ideas. 🤣
And that’s how this easy Frankenstein cat boo basket was born!

Step 1: Clean and Prepare the Empty Cat Litter Jug
First, I waited until we had finished using all the litter inside the Cat’s Pride container.
Then, I thoroughly washed the empty jug with warm, soapy water to remove any remaining litter dust or residue.
Once it was clean, I removed the original product label from the outside of the container.
Next, we carefully used a box cutter to remove the top portion of the jug, transforming it into an open basket shape.
And just like that, I had the perfect bright green base for my Frankenstein Halloween basket!
Safety tip: Cutting thick plastic can be tricky, so use caution when working with sharp tools. Make sure the cut edges are smooth and free of sharp pieces before using the container. Keep the finished basket and its contents away from your cats if they tend to chew on plastic.
Of course, if you don’t have an empty green litter jug, you can still make this Halloween craft using a regular plastic basket or another suitable container.

Supplies Needed for a DIY Frankenstein Cat Boo Basket
Before getting started, gather all your supplies so everything is ready to go!
Here’s what I used to make my homemade Halloween boo basket for cats:
- Empty green Cat’s Pride litter jug or another plastic basket
- Cricut cutting machine
- Black adhesive vinyl
- Transfer tape
- Cricut weeding tool
- Cricut scraper tool
- Cat toys and treats
- Tissue paper for decoration

Can You Make This Halloween Basket Without a Cricut?
Absolutely!
Although I used my Cricut machine to create the Frankenstein face, you definitely don’t need one to make this project.
You could easily draw the face onto the basket yourself or use a stencil and paint to create a similar design.
Another option would be to cut out the facial features by hand using adhesive vinyl.
The goal is simply to create a cute Frankenstein-inspired face on the front of your basket.
So feel free to get creative and use whatever supplies you already have!
But since I already have a Cricut machine, you know I’m going to put it to work whenever I can! 🤣

How to Make a Frankenstein Halloween Boo Basket With Cricut
Now that the empty litter jug is cleaned, trimmed, and ready to go, it’s time to turn it into an adorable Frankenstein Halloween basket!
And honestly, this is where the project really starts coming together.
Step 2: Create and Cut the Frankenstein Face
First, I used my Cricut machine to cut out a Frankenstein-inspired face using black adhesive vinyl.
The black vinyl looks perfect against the bright green litter jug and really makes the facial features stand out!
Once my Cricut finished cutting the design, I carefully removed the vinyl from the machine.

Step 3: Weed the Excess Vinyl
Next, I grabbed my Cricut weeding tool and started removing the excess vinyl from around the Frankenstein face.
This process is called weeding, and it basically means removing all the unwanted vinyl pieces so you’re left with only your design.
Take your time during this step, especially around smaller facial features.
You want to make sure all the important parts of the design stay intact!

Step 4: Apply Transfer Tape to the Vinyl Design
Once the Frankenstein face was completely weeded, I cut a piece of transfer tape slightly larger than the entire design.
Then, I placed the transfer tape over the vinyl and used my scraper tool to apply firm pressure across the surface.
This helps the vinyl adhere to the transfer tape so you can easily move the entire design onto your basket.
Next, I carefully peeled the transfer tape away from the vinyl backing at an angle.
Be sure to go slowly and check that all the pieces of your Frankenstein face are sticking to the transfer tape before removing it completely.

Step 5: Attach the Frankenstein Face to the Basket
Now comes the fun part!
With the vinyl design attached to the transfer tape, I carefully positioned the Frankenstein face on the front of my green litter jug.
Once I was happy with the placement, I pressed the design onto the basket.
Then, I used my Cricut scraper tool again to apply firm pressure and help the vinyl adhere to the plastic surface.
Finally, I slowly peeled away the transfer tape, leaving the black vinyl Frankenstein face attached to the basket.
And y’all… HOW CUTE IS THAT?!
Seriously, I couldn’t believe how adorable this little Frankenstein Halloween basket turned out!
The bright green container paired with the black facial features makes such a fun, spooky-cute Halloween design.
And the fact that it started as an empty litter jug makes it even better!

What to Put in a Halloween Boo Basket for Cats
Now that our DIY Frankenstein basket is finished, it’s time for the BEST part!
Filling it with goodies for our furry little friends!
There are so many fun things you can include in a Halloween boo basket for cats, depending on what your kitty enjoys.
Here are a few of my favorite ideas!

1. Halloween Cat Toys
You can never go wrong with a few new cat toys!
I love finding cute Halloween-themed toys, especially little plush pumpkins, ghosts, or other spooky designs.
They’re such a fun way to celebrate the season with your cats!
Just make sure any toys you choose are designed for cats and don’t have small, loose pieces that could be swallowed.
2. Catnip Toys
My cats love a good catnip toy, so naturally, I had to include some in their Halloween boo basket!
Catnip-filled toys are such an easy addition, especially if your cat already enjoys playing with them.
And let’s be honest, watching cats go crazy over a new catnip toy is pretty entertaining for us humans too! 😹
3. Their Favorite Cat Treats
Of course, no Halloween boo basket would be complete without a few treats!
I like including some of my cats’ favorite cat treats so they have something extra special to enjoy.
Just be sure to stick with treats that are appropriate for your cat and avoid sharing human Halloween candy.
Because while we might be enjoying Reese’s pumpkins all October long, our kitties definitely need their own cat-safe goodies!
4. Scratching Toys or Pads
If your cat loves scratching pads, a new one could be another fun addition to their Halloween basket!
You could even find a Halloween-themed scratching toy to make it extra festive.
This is especially perfect for cats who prefer scratching toys over traditional plush toys.
5. Tissue Paper for a Festive Touch
And finally, I added some tissue paper around the treats and toys to make the basket look a little more festive.
Now, this step is completely optional!
But y’all know me. If I’m already going through the trouble of making a Frankenstein boo basket for my cats, I’m definitely going to make it look cute too! 🤣
Just remember that tissue paper is for decoration, not for your cats to eat or chew on. Remove it before letting your cats explore their new goodies.
Tips for Making the Cutest DIY Halloween Cat Basket
After making this Frankenstein boo basket, I wanted to share a few simple tips to help your project turn out just as cute!

Reuse Supplies You Already Have
One of the best parts about this Halloween DIY project is that you can repurpose items instead of buying everything new.
An empty litter jug, leftover adhesive vinyl, or an old plastic basket can all be useful for creating your own Halloween boo basket.

Keep the Design Simple
You don’t need an elaborate design to make a cute Frankenstein face.
Simple black facial features against a green basket are enough to give it that classic Frankenstein-inspired look!

Customize the Basket for Your Cat
Every cat has different preferences, so fill your boo basket with items you know your kitty will actually enjoy.
Whether that’s catnip toys, crunchy treats, or a new scratching pad, the possibilities are endless!

Reuse the Basket Next Halloween
Since the Frankenstein design is perfect for Halloween, you can save the finished basket and reuse it next year.
Simply refill it with fresh treats and new toys!
I love seasonal DIY projects that can be enjoyed more than once, and this one definitely fits the bill.
