āEasy Privacy Ideas
If you’re just starting out on your hot tub journey and have a limited budget, there are still a few popular choices when it comes to budget friendly privacy ideas.
For example, planting some evergreen trees is a great way to create a natural barrier around your hot tub area. They also provide year-round privacy since they are evergreen!
This is originally what we did with our outdoor space when we first got the hot tub. We spent some money having the raised deck built for the hot tub and didn’t want to spend much more for a physical barrier from the outside world at the time.
Luckily, our hot tub was gifted to us by our in laws that didn’t use it as much as they thought they would. So thankfully, we didn’t really have a cost in the actual hot tub. But, the labor and materials for the deck kinda maxed the budget out last spring.

Shrubs and Foliage
So, we started by planting some trees in the corner of the deck. Now granted, they aren’t tall trees yet, but they are growing and filling out the space nicely. And we specifically placed our hot tub where we knew the cover would face the road.
When you open our hot tub, it has a bar that holds the cover in place and kind of creates a mini wall. So the hot tub cover in itself is very helpful for when it comes to privacy. And not only did we plant trees, but some other lush greenery around the deck as well.
That way it gives the hot tub deck an aesthetic appeal. You can also plant tall hedges and tall plants around your hot tub for even more coverage.
Plus, it makes it look more like a private paradise and secluded oasis the more tall grasses and plants that you add around the area. Dense foliage is always a good idea when you’re worried about the amount of privacy you need.
Building A Backyard Porch
So now that we have the hot tub deck all set up, we decided we wanted even more privacy around the area. So we hired our builders to build us a covered porch over the original hot tub deck and I am so glad we did!

Now granted, this is not really a budget friendly option, but for long-term use, this is exactly what we wanted. And that way, we can use the hot tub anytime regardless of the weather too. Snow, rain, or sun, we are free to enjoy it with the shelter of a covered porch now!

We ended up painting the porch and ceiling the same colors that we used for our front porch makeover back in the summer. We used Bohemian Lace by Sherwin Williams for the trim, and Copen Blue by Sherwin Williams for the ceiling color.

You may remember we were inspired by the Haint Blue color of so many Charleston porches. Y’all know we absolutely love Charleston and often are inspired by the area for all of our home projects such as this. And especially our flower window box as well!

Other Privacy Ideas
Even though we decided to have a porch cover built over our hot tub deck this year, there are still a lot of other ways you can achieve privacy around your hot tub too. I will share some more backyard hot tub privacy ideas below to get your creativity flowing!
Hot Tub Privacy Screen
You could easily add some retractable screens around the hot tub for instant privacy. Mobile privacy screens are a great option to add around a hot tub if it’s out in the open like ours was originally.
And you don’t even need to build it or attach it to the deck. You can just move them around to the best spot for maximum privacy. This is a super affordable way to address your lack of privacy issue without building a whole privacy wall.
And there are all kinds of screens you can choose from. Whether you want bamboo screens or lattice screens, finding the right privacy screen for you can be a breeze since there are so many options available.
Privacy Fence
āIf you wanted to spend a little more and create a more permanent solution, you could always build a beautiful wooden fence around your hot tub.
Whether you contract it out, or build it yourself, you could create a beautiful backyard oasis with a fence. You could make it more like a privacy garden and create a sense of seclusion with a fence around the area.
This could also provide full coverage if that’s the level of privacy you are looking for. Plus, it’s always fun to add some string lights around the fence too!
Gazebo
Originally before building the porch cover, we thought we could just add a wooden gazebo over the hot tub on the deck. But, with where the deck was built, right on the side of our house, we thought it may look weird.
Especially because we couldn’t find the exact right size for one either. So ultimately, we decided to just go ahead and cover the whole space. But, if you have a small hot tub, a gazebo may just be a great addition to your space for more privacy!
Outdoor Curtains
If you have your hot tub under a covered porch like we do, you could always throw in some outdoor curtains for additional privacy. Not only are they an excellent choice for privacy, but they can also help block out the sun on a really bright day!
So that is a definite added benefit to outdoor curtains! And they come in various styles so you can easily find something that will match your personal style as well.
Enjoy These Backyard Hot Tub Privacy Ideas!
Well, I hope all these hot tub enclosure ideas helped inspire you to better your own hot tub experience at your home. If you’re looking for more privacy for your outdoor hot tub, you can see there are a variety of ways to achieve that.
And if you’re on the fence about becoming a hot tub owner, let me tell you, there is nothing better than going for soak after a long day! This was the best backyard project we have ever completed in my opinion!

I sleep like a baby after soaking in the hot tub and it takes away all my aches and pains! We haven’t been able to use the hot tub as much as I would like as the porch was being built, and I could tell a difference.
I will definitely be taking advantage of the finished porch now and take as many soaks as I can!
