I can’t believe how fast we are approaching Mother’s Day coming up this year! I’m not a mother myself, but I thought it would be fun to share some Mother’s day crafts with you all. I decided to make this DIY Flower Pot Idea for Mother’s Day this year and I think it turned out so cute!
It’s technically a plant and not a flower, but hey, it works right?! I just thought the pot was too cute and it already came with the plant inside so it is a win win! I was originally going for some terra cotta pots instead, but when I saw this one, it was just speaking to me. So obviously I had to grab it!
If you’re looking for an easy Mother’s Day craft idea to make for your own mother, or even for yourself, be sure to keep on reading to see just how I made this easy flower craft project!
And the good news is, even if you aren’t a mother, like me, you can still enjoy this fun Mother’s Day flower pot craft idea too! It is perfect for anyone!

Materials Needed For DIY Flower Pot:
Flower Pot (I got mine from Lowe’s Home Improvement and as I mentioned above, it already had a plant in it.)
Plants/Flowers (If your pot doesn’t come with it’s own plant!)
Permanent Vinyl (I used black)
What Kind of Flower Pot to Use
Like I mentioned above, I originally wanted some terracotta pots instead. My plan was to paint the pots with some acrylic paint in different colors too. I did something similar to this several years ago when I shared all about how to paint and distress terra cotta pots!
However, once I saw my pot I chose, I knew I couldn’t go back! I love how the bottom of the pot has a natural wood tone to it! So I figured by adding some black vinyl on the front, it would make for the perfect, neutral flower pot. Which means it could work anywhere and for anyone!
But if you can’t find a pot like I used, basically any clay pot or terracotta flower pots would work perfectly for this project. You could even use some white paint on them first, and then add in the black vinyl to them later to recreate a similar look to mine!
Also, make a trip to your local Dollar Store or local craft store and see what cheap flower pots they have to offer there as well! Either way, it is going to make for a gorgeous Mother’s Day gift!
Design Your Flower Pot Image In Cricut Design Space
So for this lovely special occasion, I once again brought out my handy dandy Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine! If you’ve been around here for awhile now, then you know I use this thing every chance I get!
It’s a great way to make a lovely gift even more custom and personalized. I originally wanted to find a special message on Cricut Design Space pertaining to Mother’s Day, but when I saw this plant mom image, I fell in love.
Especially since it already had an image of the exact plant I had in the picture too. So obviously it was meant to be!
Once I finalized the image, I then placed some black vinyl on my standard grip mat and began cutting. You could use your favorite colors for this project too, but like I said, I wanted to keep mine simple and neutral!
Also, side note, did you know that you can make some homemade cards with your Cricut machine too?! How adorable would that be?! You could make a matching pair of flower pots and cards as a great gift set for Mother’s Day too!
Prepare The Vinyl Design
The next step to this DIY Flower Pot is to prepare the vinyl design once you have cut it out. I do this with the Cricut Weeder Tool. I just remove all the excess vinyl from the image and discard it.
Then, I apply a piece of transfer tape, roughly the same size or a little larger than the design itself, to the image. Using the Cricut scraper tool, I apply firm pressure to the transfer tape to make sure the vinyl adheres.
After that, peeling in a slow and diagonal motion, I peel the transfer tape of the backing of the vinyl design. Go slow and take your time because you don’t want to miss parts of the design.
If parts don’t stick the fist time, simply lay the transfer tape back down over the design and apply more firm pressure to the transfer tape. Then, try again and you should be just fine!
Apply The Vinyl Design To The Flower Pot
The final step to these adorable DIY Mother’s Day flower pots is to place the vinyl design with transfer tape right onto your pot. And then, again, you’re going to want to use firm pressure with the scraper tool to make sure it adheres fully to the pot.
Using a slow and diagonal motion once more, slowly peel the transfer tape away from the pot. Your vinyl design should stick right onto the pot once the transfer tape is fully removed!
I had plenty of room on the pot to apply this design and it took it from just a regular flower pot, to a beautiful Mother’s Day planter instead!
Other DIY Mother’s Day Flower Pot Ideas
If you have little ones at home, you could easily make some fingerprint flowers on a flower pot too! Or make an adorable handprint flower pot craft too! That would make for a wonderful homemade mother’s Day gift idea as well!

Also, if you’re trying to decide what the best plant or flower would be for Mother’s Day, don’t make it too complicated. Just grab your mom’s favorite flower and place it inside! Or I am sure any kind of plant or fresh flowers would do just fine too! Houseplants are all the rage and make for a wonderful mother’s day gift!
