I can’t believe it’s Memorial Day weekend already! Where has the time gone?! However, I figured to celebrate, I would make some cute DIY Patriotic Signs.
That way, I can display them and use them all the way until the Fourth of July too! Decorating in red, white, blue colors is one of my favorite ways to decorate for summer! And the best part is these signs are so easy to make too.
If you like making your own home decor like I do, you will love the signs! So let freedom ring and see just how easy it is to create these fun signs yourself. These would also make for a great patriotic gift for a loved one too!

Materials Needed for DIY Patriotic Signs
You’ll notice below that I used both my Glowforge and xTool machines for these signs. You can easily use one or the other. I just had some designs already preloaded in my Glowforge App that I wanted to use for this project. Hence why I used both machines!
Basswood Plywood (You can use whatever kind of wood you have on hand. Whether it be solid knotty pine, or hardwood, just be sure that you have the correct settings on your laser for the type of wood you are using!)
Picking Out Your Patriotic Design
I mentioned above that I already had a few designs preloaded in my Glowforge Pro Membership. So that’s what I used to create the ‘Merica round wood sign.
There are several pre-made designs in the Glowforge App if you have the pro membership that you can choose from. However, the membership itself is $50 a month, so that is kinda pricey.
If you can make your own SVG files, you are probably better off without it. I would love to create my own SVG files one day. That way I can just create a custom sign whenever I want to! And take custom requests for them too. Oh well, maybe one day I will figure it out!
Or you can purchase some SVG files off of Etsy too. Which is what I did for the mini patriotic signs. I just purchased a file that included all these mini signs for just a few dollars.
And then I used my xTool P2 machine to cut them out! I will link the exact SVG file I used below too. That way if you want to make the same signs as me, you can!
Making Your Patriotic Signs
To make my patriotic signs, I used pieces of basswood plywood and then cut out the design using either the Glowforge or P2 machine. Once I had all the wood pieces cut out, I began to paint them.
For the round ‘Merica sign, I used white spray paint to paint the background easily. I like using spray paint to paint bigger pieces like this. And then I like to use the acrylic paint pens to paint the smaller, more delicate pieces.
I of course used America red, white, and blue colors mainly for the sign pieces. The sunglasses on the ‘Merica sign are in an American Flag print, so I painted one side red and the other blue to go along with the theme.
And for the full text, I just painted that black so it would pop against the white backing. For my mini patriotic signs, I decided to use wood stain for the background on those.
You could also spray paint them white too. Whatever your heart desires! I love how creative you can be when creating these signs.
Once you have all your pieces painted, you can then attach them to the sign backgrounds. I used my favorite B7000 glue for this. This glue is my favorite because it gives you a little wiggle room unlike super glue.
So if you accidentally place a piece down crooked, you can easily adjust it before it sets. But, because of this, I like to let my signs set overnight and be sure that the glue is dried before decorating with them.
Decorating With Your Patriotic Signs
If you’re an America lover like I am, you will love not only creating these signs, but decorating with them too! It makes a bold statement having some red, white, and blue in your home.
But, you can do as little or as much as you want to! You can be subtle about it if you don’t like too much color and are more of a neutral person when it comes to decorating.
There really is no right or wrong way to do it! You could even just place some oversized flags on your porch and enjoy them every time the wind moves too. An American Flag is always a good idea when decorating an outdoor space, no matter what time of the year it is!
There are so many possibilities when it comes to displaying your American Pride, these signs are just a small idea. I like to place them all over my tiered trays and/or coffee bar when decorating for Memorial Day or the Fourth.
They are perfect for little areas like that and display just the right touch of Americana to your home. I hope y’all enjoyed this little DIY Patriotic Signs tutorial and I hope you’re able to make your own sometime too. It’s the perfect way to celebrate living in the beautiful United States and remembering those who fought for our freedom this weekend.
I also hope you all have a lovely Memorial Day weekend too, no matter what you do! If you’re looking for some more patriotic home decor ideas, I have you covered with some older posts here:
