With just a few inexpensive supplies and a couple of coats of spray paint, I turned these basic white ceramic ghosts into antique gold Halloween ghosts inspired by Pottery Barn. The entire project only took a few minutes, and the best part? I spent less than $10!

How to Make DIY Pottery Barn Ghosts

Step 1: Find Your Ceramic Ghosts

First, you’ll need some small ceramic or paintable ghost figurines.

I found mine in the Target Dollar Spot, but you could easily recreate this project using ceramic ghosts from a craft store, thrift store, or even inexpensive ghosts you find online.

Don’t worry if they aren’t white. Since we’re going to completely repaint them, the original color doesn’t really matter.

Step 2: Spray Paint the Ghosts Black

Take your ghosts outside or into a well-ventilated area and give them an even coat of black spray paint.

Make sure you cover the entire surface and allow the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step.

The black base coat is actually an important part of creating that aged, antique finish.

Step 3: Add Metallic Gold Spray Paint

Once the black paint was completely dry, I lightly sprayed the ghosts with metallic gold spray paint.

The key here is to not completely cover the black paint.

I wanted some of the black to peek through the gold because I was going for an antique gold, aged pottery look rather than a bright, shiny gold finish.

Lightly spraying the metallic paint creates a beautiful layered effect that makes these inexpensive ghosts look much more like high-end Halloween decor.

If you prefer a more glamorous look, you can always add additional coats of gold spray paint until you get the finish you want!

Step 4: Paint the Eyes

After the metallic gold paint was completely dry, I felt like the ghost faces needed a little more definition.

So I grabbed some black acrylic paint and a small paintbrush and carefully painted over the eyes.

This tiny detail really made the faces pop against the antique gold finish.

Step 5: Let Them Dry and Decorate!

And that’s it!

Seriously, how easy is that?!
