If you have a graduate in your family coming up this spring, then, I am sure you’re looking for the perfect graduation gifts. That’s why I figured I would share my graduation gift basket tag ideas today with you all.
I managed to create custom gift baskets using a handmade gift tag. Which I think makes the gift even more special because even the tag is homemade! So no matter what you actually put in the basket, it will be special because of the personalized tag!
It’s a great addition to a thoughtful graduation gift basket because then your grad can reuse the tag. Whether it be for a keychain or just a keepsake! If you’re looking for a way to treat a new grad, come check this post out!

Materials Needed For Graduation Gift Tag:
If you guessed that I used my xTool P2 machine for this, then you would be correct. I can’t tell you how many times I have used this amazing machine to create something cute and personalized! And this graduation gift tag is no exception!
High Quality Wood (I used basswood plywood from the xTool’s website)
Making The Graduation Gift Tag:
I used a graduation SVG file I had on hand to cut out on my xTool machine. There are plenty on Etsy you can find too if you don’t want to create your own.
Basically, I made a 3D tag with the year of the graduation as the background and then layered the name of the graduate on top. I made this tag for my brother, who is a college student at Western Carolina University. But, this could easily be made for a high school graduate too!
To make the tag, I just loaded in the basswood plywood into my xTool machine. Then, using the automatic settings in the program for 3 mm plywood, I cut out the design.
This was a very quick and easy process. After the pieces were cut, I decided to paint them using my handy dandy paint pens. Y’all know I have used these pens over and over in my many xTool projects. I just love them!
They make it so quick and easy to customize really anything that you can then use to create unique gift baskets with! The perfect way to take this personalized step even further is to color the graduation tag using the colors of the school that the recent graduate attended!
Like I mentioned above, my brother attended Western and one of their main colors is a deep purple. So that’s what I used for the background color. And then for his name, I just used black so you could see it easily.
Once I got the pieces painted, I used the B7000 Glue that I have used so many times before to attach it together with. And that’s it! I can’t believe how easy this graduation day tag came together!
Just attach a piece of twine to the hole in the tag, and tie it onto a graduation gift box or basket! It makes for the perfect gift that is personalized and special! And now, you can fill up your loved ones graduation gift baskets!
Ideas For Graduation Baskets:
Now that we have the personalized tag made, it’s time to fill up the basket with some goodies to celebrate this momentous occasion!
For my brother’s college graduation celebration, we actually bought him tickets to see one of his favorite artist, Zach Bryan. So we technically didn’t have anything to put in his little gift basket per se. If you go this route too, you could always just print the tickets out and place it inside the basket.
I love gifting experiences like this though because it can create some amazing memories! So if your grad is a music lover or experience lover like this too, then get them some concert tickets for their graduation! I guarantee it will make their day! But, if not, I have some other great ideas too!
If your graduate is a big foodie, then filling up the basket with some tasty treats would be a great choice. Gourmet popcorn, dipped oreo cookies, fresh fruit tray, chocolate truffles, and any other sweet treats you could think of are a great start.
You could even throw in some grocery store gift cards to it too! I mean who doesn’t love a basket full of gourmet snacks?!
Another fun idea is to create a spa gift basket and place all kinds of soap, lotion, face masks, etc. inside. And you could also throw in a gift card to their favorite local spa as well. I love themed baskets like this and the possibilities are real endless.
Just think about what your grad loves, and fill up the basket with that! It’s a great way to celebrate all their hard work and accomplishments.
I hope you enjoyed all these graduation gift ideas and how to make the customized tag to go along with it! If you have any other thoughtful gift ideas for a new graduate, I’d love to hear them below!
