Planter Bench Ideas

If you’re looking for a great planter bench, then I have one for you! And the best part is, it isn’t a hard DIY Planter Bench to put together. If you’re looking for a quick and easy planter bench, then this post is for you. Plus, I am going to share all my planter bench ideas on how to style it, and what to plant inside of it as well!

I got this beautiful planter box bench from SunnyDaze Decor and they have some great outdoor furniture pieces like this to choose from. This bench comes in a beautiful, modern design and has easy step by step instructions to put it together easily.

It does come in several pieces, but everything is included, even all the wood screws and bolts that you need! With the simple design and easy to follow instructions, you will have this beautiful planter bench up in no time!

About The Planter Bench

Like I mentioned above, I got this bench from SunnyDaze Decor and it is their Meranti Wood Outdoor Planter Box Bench With Teak Oil Finish- 68″. It includes one bench and two outdoor planter boxes to go alongside of it.

SunnyDaze Planter Bench
Everything you need to build this bench, comes in this little box right here!

This bench definitely makes for a great addition to your front porch or outdoor patio area. It provides additional outdoor seating while providing the aesthetics of a planter too! The total cost of this piece is only $175 which I think is very fair considering the quality of the product. It also comes with a one year manufacturer warranty as well! I definitely recommend this beautiful garden bench from SunnyDaze for sure!

What Is The Best Material And Color For A Planter Bench?

When looking at planter bench ideas, it is important to determine the color and material of the product as well. The best material is hard and softwood in natural finishes since they blend in well with the surrounding area.

Planter Box
Close up of the teak wood on this planter bench!

For ultimate durability look for options made in cypress or teak wood in light to dark honey shades. And, as you can tell from my planter, it is made from teakwood and is in a beautiful dark honey color as well.

How To Put Together The Planter Bench

As I mentioned above, this bench is super easy to put together. With minimal tools and easy directions, it doesn’t take much effort at all to put together. The first thing you need to do is put together the planter box sides.

Planter Box Pieces to Assemble
All the wood pieces to put together.
Planter Bench Top
The planter bench seat.

Like I said it comes with two different planter boxes, so you need to build those first, and then place the bench part on top. If you’re not looking for a hard DIY project, then this is definitely your option for easy installation planter benches! Especially since you just need a few hand tools to put it all together. No heavy duty materials or power tools needed!

Finishing Up Planter Box
Everything was pre-drilled where you needed to add screws.
Screwing Together Planter Bench
Then, you simply screwed the screws in to assemble it.

And ta-da! How easy is that?!

Basically, the only thing you need to make sure of is that you are taking accurate measurements for where you want to place this planter bench. Just use a tape measure and make sure this bench will fit where you want it to go.

What Plants Are Great For A Planter Bench?

If you’re looking for some planting tips, then let me share a few planter bench ideas. We originally put in some Kimberly Ferns on each side of this bench. And it looked phenomenal! These ferns were huge and grew upright so they fit the planter box really well. However, we have this bench placed outside at our fire pit area.

Garden Bench At Fire Pit
Finished planter bench at fire pit area.

And unfortunately, it is in direct sunlight. Which is good news since our stock tank pool is down here, but not so good for the ferns! So the ferns started to not do so well because of that. We then moved them onto our covered front porch and they are thriving now! So where you place your planter bench will depend on what plants to plant inside the box.

Corner Planter Bench Shot
Our fire pit area is the perfect spot for this planter bench!

If we had it in a shadier location, the ferns would have been just fine! So instead, we just got an arrangement already planted in the planter section at Lowe’s Home Improvement. And placed these arrangements inside the planter box.

Kimberly Ferns
Close up of the pretty Kimberly Ferns!

They include a sweet potato vine, which drapes beautifully along the box! And like I mentioned in my window box post a few weeks ago, sweet potato vines love sunlight so it is the perfect plant for where our planter bench is located at!

Floral Arrangement in Planter Bench
The new arrangement we added into the planter bench.

A top tip I have for you when placing the plants inside, is to place a few wooden pieces around the inside of the planter. That way your plants don’t move around with the wind and fall inside the outdoor planter bench.

Easy DIY Planter Bench
Easy DIY Planter Bench Ideas

You can definitely fit some large planters inside the box, you just want to make sure they are secure and aren’t going anywhere! And the planter walls of the box are strong and sturdy so anything you place inside of them will be just fine!

Should You Get A Planter Bench?

If I haven’t convinced you by now to get a planter bench, I don’t know what will! If you’re wanting a nice wooden bench that you don’t have to build completely yourself from scratch, then this is a great way to do so.

Close Up of Kimberly Ferns

It also greatly enhances your outdoor space and provides extra seating as well. And even if you have small spaces when it comes to your outdoor areas, this simple outdoor bench does not take up much room at all!

You can even place it in so many different areas too! Whether it is on your front porch, or outside in an outdoor area like our fire pit too! This would make a beautiful porch planter bench as well, I just didn’t have enough room for it on my front porch.

DIY Planter Bench Ideas
Pin for Later!

I hope you enjoyed these planter bench ideas, and I hope you are able to get one for your outdoor area as well! It’s the perfect way to add in a little plants and some extra seating in a tight spot!

I would love one of these for the front of my house. This year we’re working on our downstairs living spaces such as the kitchen and living room, and now that we finally have a garden area, we’re planning on completely sprucing it up. My FIL makes all these sorts of things so hoping he might do one up for me.
