Y’all know that we absolutely love Charleston, South Carolina and try to go as many times as we can in the year. Which means we have stayed in several different places before. So I figured today I would share with you all the best places to stay in Downtown Charleston, SC!
That way, if you’re planing a trip there, you can determine which hotel is right for you. There are so many great hotels in the downtown historic district so really you have your pick!

Ansonburough Inn
The Ansonburough Inn is one of the very first places we ever stayed at in downtown Charleston. And it definitely set the bar pretty high. We were there for only one night and they upgraded us to one of their suites, which was absolutely incredible.
It’s a historic inn with a rooftop terrace that is exclusively for guests only. They also offer a complimentary breakfast, free wifi, and have a small fitness center as well.
The comfortable rooms offer a very high ceiling and is furnished with all antique style furniture too. The hotel staff here has always been amazing to us and so friendly and helpful as well.
Embassy Suites By Hilton
This Embassy Suites by Hilton is also another hotel that we stayed at when we first started going to Charleston. It is actually the former Citadel Military college and they restored it into a hotel.
Which is very cool, because in some rooms, you can still see the gun ports near the top of the ceiling! It’s definitely one of the most historic hotels in the area. However, it is a little far from right downtown. So, if you plan on staying there, be prepared to walk a lot!
There is also a new Hilton hotel in the Charleston too called the Hilton Club Liberty Place Charleston. Which we haven’t stayed at before, but have seen it often. And it looks incredible.
But again, that one is even further away than this one so you may need to drive and/or take Ubers if you’re staying at that location. We are always looking for Hilton hotels because my hubby gets vacation points with them so that’s another perk if you do that too!
Andrew Pinckney Inn
Andrew Pinckney Inn is probably one of our very favorite hotels. It just has a lot of southern charm to it and it is right in the heart of historic downtown Charleston as well.
They also offer a free continental breakfast and a wine and cheese reception before dinner. We love that this hotel is within walking distance to everywhere we want to go and the hotel rooms are very spacious and beautiful.
The Saint Phillips Suite is always the room we try to book, seeing as how you get a beautiful window view into the heart of Charleston below. I think we would probably agree that this is the best hotel in the Holy City!
Market Pavilion Hotel
This is the hotel we most recently stayed at over July 4th weekend. Market Pavilion Hotel is ideal during the summer because it has a rooftop pool.
Which really saved us because it was scorching hot. So if you’re going during the summer, I highly recommend getting a hotel that has an outdoor pool as well. Or drive into Mount Pleasant and visit some of the beaches!
Otherwise, you will burn up! But this hotel really has a prime location. You are super close to the historic Charleston City Market as well as King Street, where all the shopping is! So you pretty much have easy access to everything with this location here.
It also has a rooftop bar and kitchen and that’s where we stayed and watched the fireworks while enjoying dinner too. I will say, the food wasn’t all that amazing compared to all the other restaurants you could go to in the area, but the views of Charleston are definitely worth it!
And they do have an on-site restaurant located at the main lobby of the hotel called Grill 225. And that menu looked pretty delicious. We thought about eating there one night, but never made it. I will say the service at this particular hotel was incredible.
They had turn down service and everything which was the greatest luxury! They would come in at your requested time and turn your bed down for you to go to sleep! And they would always leave cookies and bottles of water for you to enjoy as well.
So you really can’t beat that! The rooms were also very spacious as well as the bathroom, which included both a tub and a separate shower! And since this hotel is right on East Bay Street, you are super close to Rainbow Row and Charleston Waterfront Park too.
The Mills House Hotel
This boutique hotel was super cute, especially since the exterior is all pink too! It also features a big outdoor swimming pool too so if you’re going during the summer, this would be another great option.
This hotel is full of modern amenities and also has several eating and dining options. They have their own restaurant, Iron Rose, as well as The Black Door Cafe where you can grab a quick bite and some great coffee!
You are also right across the street from one of the best restaurants, Husk. Mills House is also in a great central location to everything as well since it is right on Meeting Street. I will say though that the guest rooms were pretty small here.
So if you’re only staying a couple of nights, no big deal, but if you wanted more space, you may want to check out a few other places.
Other Places To Stay In Downtown Charleston, SC
There are so many other great places to stay in downtown Charleston, SC that I haven’t even covered yet. Such as Restoration Hotel, French Quarter Inn, Hotel Bennett, Spectator Hotel, Charleston Place, and Francis Marion Hotel.
I just touched on the ones that we have stayed at and loved. But, as you can see, you have so many options when it comes to a good Charleston Hotel!
And, I am sure we will try out more hotels the more we go back to Charleston throughout the years! It really is one of our most favorite places in the United States! So if you’ve never been there before, you definitely should try it out sometime!

I live an hour and ten minutes from Charleston, so I never think about staying in a hotel there. But you’ve listed some great places to consider. I may have to convince my husband to have us stay in one.
Thank you! We absolutely love Charleston! We’re in Asheville, NC so we’re about 4 hours away and tend to come over there often for weekend stays!
