One of my favorite things to do after visiting an apple orchard and getting fresh apples is to freeze them. That way, I have them on hand for any apple recipes I want to try later. So today I figured I would share all about how to easily freeze apple slices.
This simple recipe is a great way to have orchard fresh apples all winter long. With these frozen apple slices, you can easily make apple pie filling, apple crisp, apple squares, apple pie bars, cinnamon sugar baked apples or any other apple desserts you can think of!

Equipment Needed For Freezing Apple Slices
- Large Bowl
- Vegetable Peeler
- Apple Slicer (I got one that has an apple corer in the middle of it too)
- Freezer Bags
- Parchment Paper
- Baking Sheet (I always use my Caraway Home Sheet Pan!)
Ingredients Needed:
So besides the apples, you just need to have cold water and some freshly squeezed lemon juice. It just depends on how many apples you are freezing to determine how much lemon juice you need. I just added one tablespoon of lemon juice into each bowl filled with cold water.

What Are The Best Apples To Use?
That really is up to you and what your favorite apples are. But honestly, the firmer types of apples tend to freeze better.
Apples like Golden Delicious, Fuiji, Honeycrisp, and Granny Smith Apples are really the best because of their firm texture. You can get the apples at your local supermarket, but like I mentioned above, I love getting them fresh from the orchard during the apple season.
How To Freeze Apple Slices
These aren’t super detailed instructions because this is so easy to do! It all depends on how many apples you want to freeze, but if you do it this way, you can easily get it done fast!

First, prepare the bowl of water and lemon juice. Like I mentioned above, I usually just add one tablespoon of lemon juice to the water. This will help prevent your apple slices from turning brown.
Then, start peeling, coring, and slicing all your apples. Once sliced, place into bowl of lemon water. Be sure to dunk the slices around in the lemon water so they don’t turn on you.

Once the bowl starts to get full of apple slices, drain out all the water. Then, on a parchment lined baking sheet, arrange all the apple slices into a single, even layer. Place in the freezer for about 15 minutes, or until apple slices are frozen.

Then, transfer the frozen apple slices into a freezer bag. Be sure to label your freezer bags too so you know what they are!
