I love to create a beautiful holiday centerpiece when the time comes around and I try to do it for every season too. But, Christmas is definitely my favorite to decorate for. And, I try to keep it somewhat under budget too. So I thought it would be fun to share some cheap Christmas centerpiece ideas with you all today.
Don’t get me wrong, I love to shop for new Christmas decor, but I try to find pieces that I know will last me years and years.
That way, it’s more of an investment and something I know I will love time and time again. And then you don’t have to spend so much on Christmas decor the following years after that!
Just slowly start to build your collection up and go from there. No need to go all crazy and purchase the entire store!
I hope these ideas will help inspire you to create a simple display as a centerpiece for your dining room table too. The possibilities really are endless and there is so much you can do for the season!

Items Needed For Christmas Table Centerpiece
I will share everything I used specifically to create this easy centerpiece I have displayed on my coffee table. The best part is, I normally reuse my tray over and over again for each season, so I didn’t have to purchase that new. But, you could use any kind of tray you have on hand and just recreate some of these ideas I am sharing on it as well.
- Wooden Box Tray
- Brass Vases (I used 3)
- Mini Flocked Christmas Trees (again, I used 3)
- Battery Operated Candles
As you can see from the list above, I did not use that many items to create this beautiful centerpiece. That in itself makes this very budget friendly! If you’re looking for some other ideas for easy Christmas centerpieces, you could always use the list below. And be sure to check out your local thrift store to find some of these items at a steal too!
- Pine Cones
- Votive Candles/White Taper Candles
- Candy Canes
- Red Berries
- Mason Jars
- Glass Cloche or Glass Jars or a Clear Glass Vase
- Wicker Basket
- Fake Snow
- Fairy Lights
- Floral Picks Such As Pine Branches, Evergreen Sprigs or even Fresh Greenery
- Glass Bottles/Glass Bowls
- Citrus Fruits, Sprigs of Rosemary, Green Apples and/or Fresh Cranberries
How To Create a Beautiful Christmas Centerpiece
Now that you have some ideas on what items you might need to create a centerpiece, let’s get started! If you have been around here long enough, then this project may remind you of my easy fall centerpiece I shared years ago.
This is basically the same concept, I am just replacing the amber bottles and the fall florals with something more holiday like! So first things first, I cleared away all the fall decor in my little wooden caddy tray.
I found this tray at an antique store several years ago and I have been using it ever since. Just another example of buying timeless pieces that you can use over and over again, regardless of what season it is!
Definitely worth the money to have pieces like that in my opinion! After removing the fall decor, I placed a mini tree into 3 of the holes in the tray. I alternated each spot because I knew I wanted to put a brass vase in between each tree as well.
These mini flocked trees were found at my local Target and I just love how cute they look in the tray. They literally fit perfect in each spot!
Be sure to fluff your trees out too, that way they look more full! After the trees, I placed the 3 brass vases in the remaining holes of the tray. The contrast of the brass vases against the flocked trees really fit in well with my Christmas color scheme in my living room too.
And, for the finishing touch, I added in some battery operated candles in each of the vases as well. That way there is a nice and cozy glow at night! I think it makes for a very elegant Christmas centerpiece in my opinion!
Christmas Table Decorations
Now that I shared all about how to make my Christmas coffee table centerpiece, I figured I would show you my Christmas table centerpiece as well. Again, I use a wooden and white tray that I’ve had for years and place it right on the center of the table on top of a jute table runner.
Which brings out a lot of different textures to the centerpiece as well. In the tray I place my white vase and fill it with some Christmas greenery. You could also use fresh blooms as well if you’re hosting a Christmas dinner and want to make it even more special!
Then, I put my brass candlesticks and battery operated tapered candles in the other corner of the tray. To fill the middle of the tray, I place more mini flocked trees there.
I like to create items with different sizes as it is a great way to make a focal point to your centerpiece! But I also like to make sure the tallest items are to the side of the centerpiece, that way you can still see directly in front of you when sitting down.
For my table decorations, I use some different colors compared to my coffee table centerpiece. I still like to incorporate the brass/gold colors, but I also like to use a little red, Especially since I love to display my vintage Santa mugs on my coffee bar, which is right beside the dining room table.
So I think have a little red and gold ties in my Christmas theme colors everywhere together. And, I continue that color scheme on my tiered trays throughout my kitchen too.
As you can see on my place settings, I think it’s a really good mixture of both colors and is the perfect finishing touch to my Christmas table settings! I especially love the antique brass gold chargers I found this year too. Linking them below for you:
