I was recently strolling through the Target Dollar Spot (as I often do!), and I came across several blank planter pots. They had a few different colors and they were only $3 a piece. Which I thought was a steal for a little ceramic pot like that. So I came up with the idea to do a DIY funny planter label for the pot since it was so plain!
I love the black and white classic look to it. I was kind of going for the whole Rae Dunn planter vibe since I had one on my porch that broke.
This is the perfect size to replace it, and I dare say, even cuter! I love it more since I actually had a hand in making it!

Design Your Funny Planter Label
I just went on Cricut Design Space and searched through a few plant related items until I found one I liked. Then, I measured how big my pot was so I knew the dimensions of how big my label should be.
When you upload a pre-made design, it automatically makes it a certain size. So I had to size it down to fit my pot. Depending on how big or small your pot is, this part will vary for you.
After getting the sizing right, I printed it out on my Cricut Explore Air 2 machine. To do this, I just applied the black vinyl to the standard grip mat.
Then I printed out the design! To remove the design from the mat, slowly and carefully peel it off in a diagonal direction.
Then, to get the design ready to apply it to the pot, you need to remove the excess vinyl around the lettering. To do this, I recommend using the Cricut Weeder Tool.
This helps you keep the actual lettering on the backing, while removing the excess vinyl you don’t need.
Apply the Label to the Pot
The next step in this DIY funny planter label, is to just apply it to the pot! And to do that, you need transfer tape. Simply cut out a piece of transfer tape that is slightly larger than your label.
Then, place it over the label and use the scraper tool to smooth it across the label. You can also use a credit card as well if you don’t have the scraper tool.
Apply a good amount of pressure when scraping the transfer tape onto the label. You want to make sure it sticks to the transfer tape well. That’s how you will ultimately apply it to your planter.
Again, to remove the backing, slowly and carefully pull it off in a diagonal direction. Making sure all the lettering is sticking to the transfer tape as you pull it away.
Once you have the label all on the transfer tape, now it’s time to apply it to the pot! I just kinda eyeballed it and placed it in the center of the pot.
If you’re working with a flat surface, you can use the scraper tool again here to make sure the design fully adheres. But, this pot had a rounded shape to it, so I just used my fingers and really made sure the label was sticking well.
Finishing Up Your DIY Label
Again, very carefully peel off the transfer tape from the pot. Work slowly and make sure the lettering is sticking to the pot. If some of it comes off, no worries.
Just place the transfer tape back down and rub it vigorously until it adheres well to the pot.
After you have peeled off all the transfer tape, your DIY funny planter label is all done and ready to go!
I just love how this turned out! I did just add in a faux plant to take a picture of it, but I plan on actually using this as a planter when the weather warms up!
