A few years ago on Valentine’s Day morning, my mom discovered a mama cat and her three kittens on her front porch. As a lifelong cat lover, there was absolutely no way I wasn’t bringing one of those sweet rescue kittens home once she was old enough. And that’s how Riley became part of our family. ❤️

Fast forward to today, and Riley has grown into the funniest, sassiest, most personality-filled cat I’ve ever had. She’s definitely not a lap cat, and she makes you work for every ounce of attention and affection, but somehow that just makes me love her even more. 😂

The best part? My mom ended up keeping Riley’s mom, Smoke, while finding loving homes for all the other kittens. So Riley’s mama is still around, and we get to see her from time to time. 🥹🐱

It feels like this whole rescue cat story was just meant to be. ❤️

DIY Bird Feeder Upgrade

This weekend we decided to give our little bird feeder a much needed upgrade. I got a nice little bird feeder and stand from my mother in law for my birthday a few weeks ago. And while the stand was fine on it’s own, we thought it would be fun to make something a little more custom and elevated for it. Plus, the wind around our house can get really bad sometimes and those stands don’t usually hold up too well. Hence, the DIY bird feeder upgrade project was born!

DIY Bird Feeder Upgrade
Here it is all finished! So cute, right?!

This post contains affiliate links. Click here to ready my disclosure policy.

Materials Needed:

  • Bird Feeder
  • Bird Seed
  • Wooden Post, 4x4x8
  • Quick Setting Concrete
  • Wood Stain
  • Hanging Hooks
  • Hanging Basket
  • Flowers
The before
This is what the bird feeder looked like before. Cute and simple, but we wanted to make it something with a bit more of an impact!

Set Up Wooden Post

The first thing we did for this DIY bird feeder upgrade was to dig a hole with post hole diggers in the spot where we wanted to hang it.

Then, we sat the wooden post inside the hole to make sure we dug it deep enough for it. After that, we filled in the area with quick setting concrete.

Digging a hole for wooden post

Placing Wooden Post Inside Hole
Placing the post where we want it to go.
Getting the Quick Set Concrete Ready
Getting the quick setting cement ready.

All you have to do for that is pour some of the material around the hole, and then water on top to activate it. There is no mixing required which makes it super easy!

If you remember, we did this method for our string lights at our old camper a few years ago.

Activating the Quick Set Concrete
You can see where we poured the quick setting cement here.

After activating it with water, we placed the dirt on top of it. We also ended up mulching a small spot around the post once we were done.

We had an extra bag leftover and thought, why not? It really made it look put together and finished the look perfectly.

Placing the dirt on top of concrete

Stain the Wooden Post

After you have the wooden post securely set up, now you can stain it or paint it whatever color you desire! We decided to go with the same stain that we already have on our back porch.

Since this bird feeder is right off the porch, we wanted it to match and tie in together nicely.

Painting the Wooden Post

We used a Valspar stain in the color Classic Mahogany. We actually need to re-stain our back porch too. If you can see from the photo above, there are several spots where the stain is chipping away.

So I guess that will be another DIY project for a different day for us coming up soon!

Adding the Hooks to the Post

Next up is to add the hooks to the post. This is what we’re going to use to attach the bird feeder to. We got two hooks because we wanted to add in a hanging basket of flowers to make it more aesthetically pleasing as well.

Adding Hooks on Post
Got the hooks nailed on!
Adding Bird Feeder to Hook
And now for the bird feeder to go on!

We also chose to hang them asymmetrical to make it more pleasing to the eye as well. I just love how it turned out and the hooks really tie everything in together.

We also upgraded the hanging basket to a more permanent hanging basket too. But, the container they already come in would have been just fine too. I just like how the basket we got also matches the hooks as well!

I linked the exact hooks we used above too, if you’re interested. They are very sturdy and cheap! Also, If you want to see the whole process in action, check out the reel I shared on my Instagram here:

Well, I hope you enjoyed this little DIY bird feeder upgrade. This was such a simple, inexpensive upgrade to do and it really made the area look much nicer in my opinion.

Plus, the birds seem to like it much more than the first one too! And I will take that! It makes me happy to see them eating away on the new and improved bird feeder!

    Hi Charity,

Nice job on the transformation of the bird feeder.

A quick question for you – do you have squirrels that take food from the bird feeder? They can be a bit of a pain here – I know squirrels have to eat too, I just wish that it wasn’t at the expense of the birds! 🙂

Plot twist: Riley’s biological mom is still part o Plot twist: Riley’s biological mom is still part of the family too! 😹🐾

There’s just something about soaking up a little vitamin D, listening to the water, and completely slowing down for a few hours. And let’s not forget the elite summer activity: the post-lunch poolside nap. 😂

These are the simple summer moments I look forward to all year long, and honestly, I wish every Friday could look like this!

Last year, my hubby gifted me a monthly massage me Last year, my hubby gifted me a monthly massage membership for my birthday, and honestly, it has been one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. As someone who deals with chronic lower back pain and everyday stress, I count down the days until my next appointment!

Sure, it’s not a permanent fix, but even a little relief can make a huge difference. I always leave feeling more relaxed, less tense, and ready to take on life again (or at least survive another work week 😜).

If you’ve ever struggled with chronic pain, muscle tension, or stress, you know how amazing that post-massage feeling is!

So tell me… are you a massage person too, or do you prefer other self-care treatments? 👇

After all the money we’ve spent on raised garden beds, soil, plants, fertilizer, and supplies, this little pepper is basically worth its weight in gold! 😂 But honestly, there’s nothing more rewarding than walking outside and harvesting fresh vegetables from your own backyard garden.

And let me tell you… this pepper was DELICIOUS! 🙌 Now I’m anxiously waiting for our cucumbers, squash, and tomatoes to really start producing. There’s just something so exciting about watching a vegetable garden grow and finally getting to enjoy the fruits (and veggies!) of your labor.

Who else is gardening this year? 🌱 What are you growing, and what’s been your biggest success so far? Drop your garden updates below because I love seeing what everyone is growing! 👇🍅🥒🌶️

Apparently, if I had actually read the product description, I would have known that. But who has time for details when you’re busy adding things to your cart? 😂

After a LOT of fluffing, shaping, and styling, though, these faux hanging ferns turned out so good! I love using artificial hanging baskets on our porch because they’re completely low-maintenance, stay green year-round, and don’t require me to climb a ladder every few days to water them. As someone who’s vertically challenged, that’s a major win. 🤣

If you’re looking for realistic faux outdoor plants, easy porch decorating ideas, or low-maintenance outdoor decor, I highly recommend giving these a try!

Would you choose real plants or faux plants for your porch? 🌿👇

Can we talk about how exhausting working with the Can we talk about how exhausting working with the public can be? Some days I’m convinced my true calling is being a remote work, stay-at-home employee with minimal social interaction because nothing drains my social battery faster. 😅

But here we are, another workday, another dollar, and we’re just gonna power through and get it done. 💪

Anyone else feel completely wiped out after talking to people all day, or is that just my introvert/neurodivergent brain? 🤪 #workhumor #workingwiththepublic #officehumor #relatablecontent #funnyworkmemes
Happy Sunday, friends! ☀️Sharing a few cozy Sunday Happy Sunday, friends! ☀️Sharing a few cozy Sunday stills of our front porch today because I’m absolutely soaking up this beautiful weather. There’s just something special about slowing down, enjoying some good old-fashioned porch sitting, and taking in the sights and sounds of summer. Anyone else spending time outside today?

I’m especially excited that we finally got our flower beds refreshed and ready for the season! 🌸🐦 The colorful blooms have already started attracting hummingbirds, and watching them dart around the flowers from inside the house each morning has quickly become one of my favorite parts of the day.

Between the front porch decor, blooming flowers, and warm summer sunshine, home feels extra sweet right now. ❤️

Wishing you all a relaxing Sunday filled with sunshine, fresh air, and a little time to enjoy the simple things. #sundaystills #flowerbed #flowerbeds #porchdecor #porchsitting
But can we talk about how hard it is to make frien But can we talk about how hard it is to make friends in your 30s?! Is anyone else struggling with adult friendships, or is it just me?

Maybe it’s my socially awkward, overthinking brain. Maybe it’s because I spend 99% of my free time at home and have fully embraced my introvert era. Or maybe it’s the fact that every time I meet someone new, I replay the entire conversation in my head for the next 3-5 business days. 🤣

And while I’ve never been officially diagnosed as neurodivergent, let’s just say some of those traits hit a little too close to home. 🧠😂

So if you’re also navigating social anxiety, an expired social battery, awkward small talk, and the challenge of making friends as an adult... welcome. You’re my people.

At least in my head, I’m the life of the party. 🎉🤣 #neurodivergent #neurodivergentsupport #socialanxietymemes #adultfriendships #socialbattery
POV: You survived your first full week back at wor POV: You survived your first full week back at work after endometriosis excision surgery… and this is what recovery really looks like. 😂

I officially made it through my first full week back to work after a month-long surgery leave, and whew… the post-op fatigue is NO joke.

Every evening has looked pretty much the same: clock out, soak my aching body in a scorching hot bath, grab my heating pad, put on my weighted eye mask, and immediately take a cat nap before I can even think about making dinner or doing anything around the house. 😴

I knew recovering from endometriosis excision surgery would take time, but I didn’t expect the exhaustion to hit this hard after returning to work. My body is definitely reminding me that healing isn’t always a straight line.

Right now, this little recovery routine is getting me through:
💛 Hot bath
💛 Heating pad on full blast
💛 Weighted eye mask (shoutout to @nodpodofficial)
💛 Emergency evening nap

Thankfully, it’s finally the weekend, and I can focus on resting and recharging before doing it all over again next week.

If you’ve had endometriosis excision surgery, how long did the fatigue last for you after returning to work? Please tell me this part doesn’t last forever! 😂👇

POV: You had a rough day at work, but then you rem POV: You had a rough day at work, but then you remember you’re funding your cat’s luxury lifestyle. 😹

Whenever I have a bad day at work, I remind myself that I need that paycheck so my cats can stay home all day, nap in peace, eat snacks, and live their best spoiled-cat lives. 😂

This first week back at work has been ROUGH, y’all. I miss being home with my fur babies more than anything. Honestly, I think my true calling in life is being a stay-at-home cat mom. 🐾

But unfortunately, someone has to pay for the treats, toys, fancy food, and all the other necessities required to maintain this luxury cat lifestyle. And that someone is me. 😅

The funniest part? I don’t even think little Miss Riley misses me. As long as the food bowl stays full and the treats keep coming, she’s perfectly content living her best life while I’m out here working my butt off. 🤣

Any other cat parents feel like they’re just employees funding their pets’ dreams? 🐱💸 #stayathomecat #stayathomecatmom #catmom #catmomproblems #catmomprobs
Anyone else with a chronic illness immediately Goo Anyone else with a chronic illness immediately Google every possible side effect before starting a new medication? Because I swear if there’s a rare reaction listed, somehow I’m the lucky winner. 🤣

Being chronically ill means I’ve tried my fair share of medications over the years, and my body always seems to have a mind of its own. If a medicine is supposed to make people sleepy, I’ll be wide awake all night. If there’s a tiny chance of an adverse reaction, somehow I’m usually that tiny percentage. 😅

So starting a new medication is always a little nerve-wracking for me. Part of me is hopeful it’ll finally provide some relief, and the other part is preparing for whatever random side effect my body decides to throw my way.

Here’s hoping this one actually helps my symptoms without adding a whole new list of problems. 🤞😂

Tell me I’m not the only one who reads the side effects before taking a new prescription! 👇 #sideeffects #medicationsideeffects #chronicallyill #chronicillnesslife #chronicillnessmemes
Vintage Americana decor has my heart ❤️🤍💙 There’s Vintage Americana decor has my heart ❤️🤍💙

There’s just something about decorating with old red, white, and blue treasures that makes a home feel extra cozy for summer. I love styling my dining room shelves with vintage Americana pieces, antique finds, and patriotic decor that can stay up from Memorial Day all the way through the Fourth of July and beyond!

Give me all the weathered flags, vintage crocks, old books, and classic Americana touches. 🇺🇸

I know some people pack away their patriotic decorations after July 4th, but I love leaving my summer patriotic decor out all season long. It just feels timeless to me!

POV: being on surgery recovery leave for a month t POV: being on surgery recovery leave for a month turned me into a full-time homebody 🤣

Honestly, staying home healing after surgery has taught me one thing… I never want to leave my house again 😂 Being cozy at home with my cats, resting, binge watching shows, and avoiding the outside world has been absolutely glorious. I truly understand the “stay at home cat mom” lifestyle now lol.

At this point, I have everything I need right here at home. Peace, comfy clothes, snacks, my pets, and zero social obligations 🤣 Meanwhile, every time I actually leave the house, I come back completely exhausted.

So the fact that I have to go back to work today after a month of recovery is honestly going to be SUCH a rough adjustment 😅 I’m not mentally prepared to rejoin society yet lol. Anyone else secretly love being home way too much?!

Honestly, I’ve been struggling with the thought of Honestly, I’ve been struggling with the thought of going back to work while still recovering from surgery. Between the physical healing and the emotional side of post-surgery recovery, I’ve been feeling pretty down lately. So this comedy date night ended up being exactly what I needed.

We bought tickets to see @johnbcrist months ago, long before I had any idea I’d be spending a month on surgery leave. Turns out the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. This was our third time seeing him live, and he absolutely delivered. I laughed so hard that for a couple of hours, I completely forgot about returning to work, ongoing recovery, and all the stress waiting for me next week. 🤣

Before the show, we had dinner at @redgingerasianbistro and finished the night with dessert at @timesbarandcoffee which made the whole evening even better. Good food, lots of laughs, and quality time with my husband was exactly the distraction I needed.

Sometimes healing isn’t just about physical recovery. Sometimes it’s about finding little moments that remind you how good it feels to laugh again. ❤️
