What’s even funnier is that she’s been an indoor cat her entire life, yet her hunting skills are surprisingly impressive. The focus. The determination. The stalking. It’s all there. 🤣

Be sure to watch until the end because the lip-licking after she spots her “prey” absolutely sends me every time. 💀😂

If you know me, then you know I’m a HUGE Southern If you know me, then you know I’m a HUGE Southern Charm fan. Honestly, watching Bravo reality shows is one of my favorite hobbies, and Craig Conover has always been one of my favorite Bravolebrities! 😂

So when I found out there was a grand reopening event at @sewingdownsouth while we were in Charleston, South Carolina, there was absolutely no way I was missing it. But what made it even better? They were actually filming for Southern Charm while we were there!

As someone who visits Charleston every chance I get and has watched Southern Charm for years, this felt like a total bucket-list moment. So keep your eyes peeled for Season 12… you just might spot me somewhere in the background. 😜

But can we talk about Craig for a second? We’ve met him before, and he is genuinely one of the nicest people. He spends so much time talking with fans, taking photos, signing autographs, and making everyone feel welcome. In a world where celebrity interactions can be hit or miss, he is the real deal.

If you’re planning a Charleston trip, make sure to add Sewing Down South to your itinerary. Whether you’re a Southern Charm fan or just love shopping local, it’s such a fun stop in the heart of downtown Charleston!

Now tell me, who’s your favorite Southern Charm cast member? 👇 #southerncharm #craigconover #sewingdownsouth #realitytvshow #bravotv

Being overly expressive is both a blessing and a curse. On one hand, people always know where they stand with me. On the other hand, it has definitely gotten me into trouble more than once! 🤣

Sometimes I think about Botox, but then I remember I’d probably lose my greatest talent: making faces when people are being ridiculous. 😜 It’s honestly a survival skill at this point.

Thank goodness I wear a mask at work because it hides at least some of my reactions! 😂

If you deal with POTS symptoms, chronic dehydratio If you deal with POTS symptoms, chronic dehydration, or heat intolerance, then you know the struggle is REAL. 😅 I feel like I’m constantly trying to stay hydrated between drinking water, adding electrolytes, and hoping my body decides to cooperate for once.

But if I’m being honest, no amount of water hydrates my soul quite like the ocean does. 🌊💙 There is just something about sitting by the beach, listening to the waves, and feeling the salt air that instantly makes me feel better.

Now, does having POTS-like symptoms mean I don’t tolerate the summer heat very well? Absolutely. 😂 But that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make for a little beach therapy. You’ll find me parked in the water, sipping my electrolytes, pretending I’m a mermaid, and refusing to leave until further notice. 🤣

The ocean may not cure my dehydration, but it sure does wonders for my mental health. 🌊☀️

A few years ago on Valentine’s Day morning, my mom discovered a mama cat and her three kittens on her front porch. As a lifelong cat lover, there was absolutely no way I wasn’t bringing one of those sweet rescue kittens home once she was old enough. And that’s how Riley became part of our family. ❤️

Fast forward to today, and Riley has grown into the funniest, sassiest, most personality-filled cat I’ve ever had. She’s definitely not a lap cat, and she makes you work for every ounce of attention and affection, but somehow that just makes me love her even more. 😂

The best part? My mom ended up keeping Riley’s mom, Smoke, while finding loving homes for all the other kittens. So Riley’s mama is still around, and we get to see her from time to time. 🥹🐱

I officially made it through my first full week back to work after a month-long surgery leave, and whew… the post-op fatigue is NO joke.

Every evening has looked pretty much the same: clock out, soak my aching body in a scorching hot bath, grab my heating pad, put on my weighted eye mask, and immediately take a cat nap before I can even think about making dinner or doing anything around the house. 😴

I knew recovering from endometriosis excision surgery would take time, but I didn’t expect the exhaustion to hit this hard after returning to work. My body is definitely reminding me that healing isn’t always a straight line.

Right now, this little recovery routine is getting me through:
💛 Hot bath
💛 Heating pad on full blast
💛 Weighted eye mask (shoutout to @nodpodofficial)
💛 Emergency evening nap

Thankfully, it’s finally the weekend, and I can focus on resting and recharging before doing it all over again next week.

Restoring an Old Bar Top

Back towards the beginning of the year, we were able to score this incredible bar piece for our downstairs. You have heard me say before that we want to transform this area into a vintage inspired game room. This was actually one of my visions that I mentioned in my 2021 goals post. So when we stumbled across this bar while out antique hunting, we knew we had to have it for that area. Our mission is to keep things as vintage and authentic as we can for that space. This piece checked off all the things on our list so it was a great purchase for us. The only thing we had to do to it was restore the old bar top. I thought it would be fun to share with y’all just how easy restoring an old bar top can be!

Old Bar
I mean look how beautiful this piece is! We couldn’t just leave it behind!

This post contains affiliate links. Click here to read my disclosure policy.

Background on the Bar

We ended up finding this beauty at one of our local antique stores, Antique Tobacco Barn. We frequently visit this place and have found some great pieces from it.

However, I will say that some of their pieces can be a little pricey, but they sure are unique! Just like this bar.

We haven’t ever seen anything quite like it so we thought it would definitely be worth our money for sure.

Bar in Antique Store
This is where we first laid eyes on this beauty!

The cool thing was that this bar came directly out of an old seafood restaurant near the beach. It isn’t a reproduction or anything like that.

So when you know more background on a piece like that, it does make it more valuable. And you can actually justify spending the money on it since you know no one else will have anything like that!

I do like to find good deals and not splurge too often, but when you see something like this, sometimes you just have to!

Sand the Bar Top Down

After lugging this big ol piece home (we did have to enlist my brother’s help for this part), we were ready to start fixing it up!

Thankfully, the bar was in such great shape and didn’t need too many things for improvement. This project ended up just taking us a couple of hours from start to finish.

The first thing we did was to take our electric sander and sand the bar top down a little.

Before Restoring the Bar Top
Here is what the bar top looked like before we did anything to it yet.

It didn’t need too much sanding here, just a little bit. We wanted to get the surface of it nice and smooth before we applied the wood sealer.

If you aren’t planning on actually using the bar to set drinks down on, then you don’t necessarily have to do all this.

If it is just mainly for decoration, then it wouldn’t be worth all your time to fix up the bar top.

Sanding the Bar Top Down
Sanding the top down.

But like I stated earlier, our plan is to create a huge game room downstairs eventually. We would like to be able to have pool table and/or foosball table down there.

So it would be beneficial to have another place to set your drinks down on besides just a small coffee table.

You may also remember our railroad cart coffee table we restored a little while back too. This rustic piece is also located in our downstairs area so the bar goes very well with it too!

Apply the Wood Sealer

After we sanded the top down real good, we cleaned the top off really well. My hubby used his air compressor and blew off any extra debris and/or dust hanging around on it.

We wanted to have a nice, clean surface before applying the wood sealer on it.

Already, it was looking so good and new again! It’s amazing how just a little TLC can really fix up an old piece of furniture like this.

Applying the wood sealer
Look at what a difference just a little wood sealer makes!

After it was all clean, we applied the wood sealer. We used the same product that we did for the railroad cart table too.

That way we didn’t have to spend any extra money on another product. It really brought out the shine and luster to the bar top.

Using a good wood sealer is definitely the way to go when restoring an old bar top!

Apply the wood sealer
This sealer was super easy to apply as well.
Bar Top with wood sealer
You can already tell such a difference from the wood sealer.
Applying last coat of wood sealer
Only took a total of two coats!

Conclusion

This was definitely a fun and easy project for us to do. I am so happy with this bar piece and how it turned out. It really fit the vision for our downstairs vintage game room.

I can’t wait to add in more and more pieces and see what we can find next. It’s a slow process for sure because since we want everything to be vintage, it unfortunately costs more.

But I’d rather take our time and have authentic pieces that we love than cheaper, easier to find pieces instead. Plus, as you know, I always love finding an older piece and bringing it new life again!

Restoring an Old Bar Top
Pin for later!

That’s a fun DIY project! We have an outdoor bar in our backyard, and it gets SO much use during the warmer months. I love that we can stay outside and enjoy the sunshine without having to run inside (or have guests run inside) all the time. We also keep a bar fridge under the bar to keep everything cold without having to use the kitchen fridge.

This is Riley’s absolute favorite form of entertai This is Riley’s absolute favorite form of entertainment. We rarely get bugs inside, but when one manages to make its way in, she transforms into a tiny lion on a mission. 😂

Any other indoor cat owners have a little hunter living in their house? 🐾

Now, did this private pool moment last all day? Absolutely not. About an hour later reality showed up. But honestly, one hour of peace and quiet was all I needed. 🤣

Anyone else dream of having the whole pool to themselves, or is that just my introvert personality talking? 👀☀️

Anyone else have facial expressions that give away Anyone else have facial expressions that give away EVERY thought in their head? 😂 Because I swear I can’t hide what I’m thinking to save my life. I may not say a word, but my face will tell the whole story anyway. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Please tell me I’m not the only one whose facial expressions expose every emotion before they even say a word. Drop a 🙋🏼‍♀️ if your face is constantly spilling the tea!

Anyone else feel like the beach is the best kind of therapy?

And also, my cute swimsuit is on sale for just $24 today too! So if you’re in need of a new swimsuit for summer, check it out! 😉

Plot twist: Riley’s biological mom is still part o Plot twist: Riley’s biological mom is still part of the family too! 😹🐾

It feels like this whole rescue cat story was just meant to be. ❤️

As someone who deals with chronic lower back pain and everyday stress, I count down the days until my next appointment!

Sure, it’s not a permanent fix, but even a little relief can make a huge difference. I always leave feeling more relaxed, less tense, and ready to take on life again (or at least survive another work week 😜).

After all the money we’ve spent on raised garden beds, soil, plants, fertilizer, and supplies, this little pepper is basically worth its weight in gold! 😂 But honestly, there’s nothing more rewarding than walking outside and harvesting fresh vegetables from your own backyard garden.

And let me tell you… this pepper was DELICIOUS! 🙌 Now I’m anxiously waiting for our cucumbers, squash, and tomatoes to really start producing. There’s just something so exciting about watching a vegetable garden grow and finally getting to enjoy the fruits (and veggies!) of your labor.

Apparently, if I had actually read the product description, I would have known that. But who has time for details when you’re busy adding things to your cart? 😂

After a LOT of fluffing, shaping, and styling, though, these faux hanging ferns turned out so good! I love using artificial hanging baskets on our porch because they’re completely low-maintenance, stay green year-round, and don’t require me to climb a ladder every few days to water them. As someone who’s vertically challenged, that’s a major win. 🤣

I’m especially excited that we finally got our flower beds refreshed and ready for the season! 🌸🐦 The colorful blooms have already started attracting hummingbirds, and watching them dart around the flowers from inside the house each morning has quickly become one of my favorite parts of the day.

But can we talk about how hard it is to make frien But can we talk about how hard it is to make friends in your 30s?! Is anyone else struggling with adult friendships, or is it just me?

Maybe it’s my socially awkward, overthinking brain. Maybe it’s because I spend 99% of my free time at home and have fully embraced my introvert era. Or maybe it’s the fact that every time I meet someone new, I replay the entire conversation in my head for the next 3-5 business days. 🤣

And while I’ve never been officially diagnosed as neurodivergent, let’s just say some of those traits hit a little too close to home. 🧠😂

So if you’re also navigating social anxiety, an expired social battery, awkward small talk, and the challenge of making friends as an adult... welcome. You’re my people.

POV: You survived your first full week back at wor POV: You survived your first full week back at work after endometriosis excision surgery… and this is what recovery really looks like. 😂

If you’ve had endometriosis excision surgery, how long did the fatigue last for you after returning to work? Please tell me this part doesn’t last forever! 😂👇

Whenever I have a bad day at work, I remind myself that I need that paycheck so my cats can stay home all day, nap in peace, eat snacks, and live their best spoiled-cat lives. 😂

This first week back at work has been ROUGH, y’all. I miss being home with my fur babies more than anything. Honestly, I think my true calling in life is being a stay-at-home cat mom. 🐾

But unfortunately, someone has to pay for the treats, toys, fancy food, and all the other necessities required to maintain this luxury cat lifestyle. And that someone is me. 😅

The funniest part? I don’t even think little Miss Riley misses me. As long as the food bowl stays full and the treats keep coming, she’s perfectly content living her best life while I’m out here working my butt off. 🤣
