Y’all know I love to decorate a front porch, for every season. But, for Christmas especially! And I always love to share how I decorate and style my porch with you guys too. So today I thought I would share some rustic front porch Christmas decorating ideas.
I did things a little different this holiday season compared to the past few years. And I love how it turned out. It definitely feels more vintage and rustic than in years past. And you all know I am all about the vintage Christmas items!
You may even be surprised that we didn’t add any Christmas lights to our outdoor space this year. And it still turned out so pretty! You really don’t have to go all out to create a beautiful, rustic Christmas porch.
So come along with me as I share all my tips and tricks on how to decorate your porch for Christmas. And hopefully you will find some inspiration on how to do your front porch Christmas decorations this year too!

Picking Out The Trees
One thing that never changes is that I love having mini trees out on our porch. I just think they look so cute and festive. Especially in vintage crocks! There is nothing better than a mini Christmas tree in an antique crock in my opinion. That’s always the first thing I do!
But something different we did this year was to incorporate some evergreen trees into the mix as well. I usually love real Christmas trees, and like to place one in my vintage wash pot on the porch.
However, they are expensive and it’s kinda sad you just throw them away after. So my husband thought we should buy a couple of evergreen trees and place them on the porch in some crocks. Then, when we are done with them, we could plant them in the yard.
He’s been wanting to plant a few anyway since the deer ate all the ones we planted a few years ago! So, this was a much better investment for us since we can actually use the trees after too! So essentially they are potted plants for now until we plant them.
We just went to our local Lowe’s Home Improvement Store and picked up the very last two trees they had! And thankfully they already had a festive little plaid ribbon tied on top too so it was perfect!
Another thing we usually do with the trees is to wrap some Christmas lights around them and the front porch railings. However, we decided to just keep it simple this year and omit the string lights. It’s kinda a pain to wrap it around the railing and take it down.
But, you can see how we have done it before on my Christmas porch tour last year! And honestly, I have so many Christmas trees up inside the house, we don’t really need outdoor lights too.
You can see the cozy twinkle lights from the windows of almost every room in our house so I think we are good! Especially since our window box sits below our living room trees, which are very bright and twinkly indeed!
Christmas Window Box
I really went all out on our Christmas window box last year, but this year I decided to keep it more on the simple side. Basically, the main thing it needed was to have all the dead plants pulled out of it from the summer.
The dead twigs sticking out of it were not cute y’all! And I kept procrastinating so finally, on that same trip to Lowe’s, we got some fresh greenery and evergreen garlands as well.
After removing all the dead plants, we simply filled the box with the lush green garlands and greenery until it was full. Then, we placed some pine cones on top as well. And although it is super simple, it looks much better than it did before.
This is a very inexpensive way to decorate your window box for Christmas. I didn’t really want to buy a ton of winter plants/trees and plant them inside. Especially since it has been so cold here lately. I figured they would just die and it would be a waste of money.
Plus, I didn’t really feel like going out in the cold and watering the box everyday if I am being honest! That’s much more fun to do in the spring and summer when it is warm outside.
But, I just love the look of the simple, natural elements inside the box this year instead!
Cozy Seating Area
Another thing I always have on my porch every season are our rocking chairs. They are perfect for front porch sitting! You can easily make it more cozy by adding in some throw blankets and throw pillows on the chairs too.
I need to find some pretty plaid blankets to drape across the chairs too. Although, I don’t think there will be much time out here on a rocking chair during the winter! It’s a tad too chilly for that.
However, if it’s a mild winter day, I do like to sip on some hot cocoa outside. But, your porch is the first impression of your home that people see, so I just try to make it as cozy as possible!
I got both the rocking chairs and pillows from Amazon and they have held up so nicely. I will link the chairs below for you as well:
Vintage Sled and Skis
One of my all time favorite rustic decorations are a vintage sled on the porch! I actually got lucky this year at Vintage Market Days, and found a little mini old sled.
The color of it was perfect and I loved the fact that it was so small. My larger sled was given to me by my mother in law and I have used it every single Christmas on the porch. I also love to attach a wreath to it and tie some vintage ice skates around the sled too.
That alone is such a beautiful idea for outdoor Christmas decorations. Another new thing I found this year at The Garage (which is a local antique shop) were these cool vintage skis!
As soon as I saw them, I figured they would make for some of the best Christmas porch decorations! And seeing as how they were already red, it was a great way to fit into my porch color scheme.
Be sure to check out your local thrift store to see if you can score any goodies like vintage sleds, skis, and skates! Christmas antique shopping is one of my favorite things to do. Especially if I can find something at a great price too!
Other Rustic Front Porch Christmas Decorating Ideas
We had some leftover fresh greens from the window box, so I decided to fill my vintage watering can with them. It was the perfect addition to making my watering can look a little more festive! Another finishing touch is hanging a festive wreath on your porch too.
Whether you hang it on your front door, or on the side of your porch like I do. Either way, it makes for some nice holiday cheer! I am just using a faux wreath with some red berries this year, but fresh wreaths are always a great idea too.
Another easy idea is to just add in a Merry Christmas door mat as well. You will also see some rustic lanterns on my porch for Christmas decor. One of them is even red, so it is absolutely perfect for a Christmas front porch!
