Y’all know I absolutely love my home office! I love working in here and decorating and styling the space for different seasons. And one of my favorite spots is my reading nook I created in here. So today I am going to share all my home office nook ideas with you all.
Whether or not you want to do a reading nook too, you can still use some of these ideas to decorate your space. I love to use every piece of square footage that I can to decorate!

Pick A Corner
Basically, to create a nook space, I just chose a little corner in my office that didn’t have anything there to begin with. And like I mentioned above, I decided to create a reading nook space there.
But, if you have a corner desk, you could also set up your workspace there too. I talked about this before in my blog post on how to style a home office, but I actually like having my desk right in the center of the room.
That way, I can look out and enjoy the view from the windows. In fact, as I am typing this right now, it is snowing! So I feel like having a beautiful view like that in front of me really gets my creativity flowing!
But of course, it all depends on your space and layout. You could even do a built-in desk in the corner to save space and just create a whole desk area nook instead.
In my other corner across from my reading nook, I have vintage filing cabinets where I store all my documents and everything I need. I try to utilize the entire room for not only aesthetic purposes, but functionality too.
In another corner I have my vintage lockers, and I use those to store things in as well. So no matter if you have a small space or not, you can definitely figure out a way to create some kind of home office nook.
Creating A Reading Nook
Now, that I know which corner is going to be my nook space, it’s time to start styling. Which is the most fun part I think! I chose this space to be a reading nook because my office gets great natural light thanks to the large windows in here.
And I am a huge book nerd. I absolutely love to read in my spare time. And my husband bought me a Kindle last year and it has probably been one of my most favorite presents ever.
Especially because I use it so much! So I needed a nice, comfy spot to sit in and enjoy reading. Creating a dedicated space for reading is a great option if you love to read as much as I do. Now, I will share below all the pieces I used to create this cozy, small area space!
Vintage Leather Chair
Of course, you can’t have a reading nook without some comfortable chairs! And when I saw this vintage leather chair and ottoman from Vintage Pickin’ several years ago, I knew it had to come home with me!
It’s the perfect start to this little nook space. To make it even more comfy, I like to add a large oversized pillow. And I got mine from Sewing Down South. Which is one of my favorite stores in Charleston, and if you’ve been around here long enough, you know we absolutely love Charleston!
I love it so much I decided to create a whole reading nook around the Charleston theme, which I will share more of how I did that later on.
Office Lamp
I know I stated my office already had good lighting, but that doesn’t mean you can’t throw in a pretty floor lamp too. I love the one I have in here.
It’s a good mix of clear glass and a very pretty brass finish. I actually have one very similar to this one in my living room nook area too.
And again, if you’re putting a small desk in your office nook, you could always add in a desk lamp too. Just anything to add a little additional lighting would be perfect.
Open Shelves
Another key element to a good nook space is open shelves. Again, if you’re working with a tight space and you’re trying to put your whole workspace in the nook, you could always do a floating desk instead. Just like these floating open shelves.
But, I love the shelves because it is a great way to display fun things. Such as a few vintage office supplies, decorative items, vintage books, and other little knickknacks. Like I mentioned above my little home-office nook has a Charleston theme to it.
And I really tie it all in using these open shelves. I display some huge seashells we found on our trip to Isle of Palms a few years ago. As well as some very pretty prints taken by a local Charleston photographer.
And the cool thing about the frames to these prints is that they are made from reclaimed wood from historic Charleston houses. When they are being renovated, they will use the old wood they find to create these beautiful frames. And I have a picture of both Rainbow Row, which is in downtown Charleston, and a picture of the beach there as well.
So all these items create a cohesive look and theme, which I love. Since I spend so much time here in my office, I wanted a spot that captures my favorite vacation destination. I also change things up seasonally and add a few touches here and there to my open shelves.
Other Decor Ideas
Some more nook ideas would be adding some indoor plants to give a little life in the space. And you could always do an inspiration board or bulletin board on the wall too. Especially if it’s a small nook and you’re staring at the wall from your desk.
That would be a good way to boost productivity by looking at your goals and dreams while you work! It doesn’t matter how big or small your work space is, you can always make the space feel larger and more inviting by adding some of your favorite things to the area. It can be a functional office nook, as well as a beautiful one too!
