The second I saw this black cat in the Target Hall The second I saw this black cat in the Target Halloween decor section, I knew exactly what I had to do… turn it into Charlie. 😹

Obviously, I couldn’t just leave this little black cat statue as-is when I have my very own fluffy tuxedo cat at home! So I grabbed some paint while I was at Target and came home for a little Halloween craft night with my very attentive supervisor. 😂

And when I say Charlie supervised… I mean she watched VERY closely to make sure I got her likeness just right. 👀

I used white paint to recreate her adorable tuxedo face, pink for her little nose, and green for her eyes. Her eyebrow whiskers came out slightly wonky, but honestly… hers are a little wonky in real life too, so we’re calling that accuracy. 😂

When the DIY cat statue was finally finished, Charlie inspected my work and… well… I’m not sure she was impressed. 😹
Obviously she knows she’s MUCH prettier in person, so her Target Halloween decor dupe simply wasn’t up to her standards.

But I think it turned out absolutely adorable! 🐈‍⬛🎃 This was such an easy and fun way to personalize inexpensive Halloween decor and make it look just like your own pet.
Now I need to know… would you paint one to look like your cat?! 👇🏻

POV: you made the cutest DIY Halloween decor witho POV: you made the cutest DIY Halloween decor without buying a single thing 👻📖

This is your reminder that fall decor doesn’t have to be expensive! Some of my favorite seasonal decorations are DIY projects made with supplies I already have at home, and this spooky cute DIY ghost banner might be one of my favorites yet.

I started by brewing about 4 bags of black tea and letting it cool. While the tea was cooling, I tore a few pages out of an old book I already had and placed them in a shallow baking dish with the tea. I let the pages soak for several hours to give them that perfectly aged, vintage look.

Once the tea-stained book pages were dry, I used a ghost-shaped cookie cutter to trace little ghosts onto each page. Then I cut them out, added tiny faces with a Sharpie, and attached them to twine using mini clothespins.

And that’s it! 👻

I hung my DIY ghost garland on the hutch in my dining room, and I think it adds the perfect amount of spooky cute Halloween decor without spending a bunch of money.

You could easily customize this budget-friendly fall DIY too! Instead of ghosts, try pumpkins, leaves, bats, or whatever shape fits your fall decor. The possibilities are endless!

Save this easy DIY Halloween decor idea for your next fall craft night, and tell me: would you make the ghosts or switch them out for another fall shape?!

Valentines Cookie Cake Ideas

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

I know Valentines Day has come and gone, but I just had to share this cookie cake I made with you all! My hubby requested one, and I have actually never made one before. So I figured if you were in the same boat as me, I could share all the valentines cookie cake ideas with you all.

That way, we are all more prepared for next year’s holiday too! And, you can make this chocolate chip cookie cake anytime of the year really. Just switch out the Valentines Day sprinkles with some different ones, and change the icing color up!

You could make this for really any special occasions you have coming up and customize it. Which is a perfect way to celebrate in my opinion!

So keep on reading for the full recipe card and see just how easy this homemade cookie cake is to make yourself!

Ingredients Needed For Valentines Cookie Cake:

  • ¾ cup butter room temperature
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • ⅔ cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla (I use my homemade vanilla extract for this)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (you could also use white chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips if you prefer)
  • 2 Tablespoons Valentine’s sprinkles
Valentines Day Cookie Cake

Ingredients Needed For Vanilla Buttercream:

  • 3/4 cup butter room temperature
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1-2 Tablespoons milk or cream
  • Red food coloring, optional

What Pan Should I Use?

To make this Valentine’s Day Cookie Cake, you can use a springform pan, which is what I did. If you want a heart-shaped cookie cake, you could also use a heart-shaped pan.

But, keep in mind, bake times will vary based on whether or not you are making a heart cookie cake or a regular, round cookie cake.

To keep my cake from sticking to the cake pan, I used parchment paper for the bottom area of the round pan.

Then, I also sprayed non-stick cooking spray all over the sides of the pan too. When baking, I also placed this springform pan on a cookie sheet too, just in case anything leaked out. I didn’t want it to get all over the bottom of my oven!

How To Make Cookie Cake

To make this yummy Valentines Day cookie cake, preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Line whatever pan you are using with parchment paper or spray with cooking spray throughly.

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and salt and set aside. In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream both sugars, butter, and vanilla extract on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes total.

Before Baking Cookie Cake

Add the egg and the yolk and mix well. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients at low speed. Add in the chocolate chips and the sprinkles.

Press cookie dough into prepared pan and try to make it as even as possible. Bake anywhere from 30-45 minutes, or until the edges turn a nice golden brown color.

After Baking Cookie Cake

As I mentioned above, baking time will vary based on what pan you use. Mine took a total of about 42 minutes. Remove from oven and cool completely on wire rack. When cool, remove cookie cake from pan and place on cake board or large platter.

Before Decorating Cake

How To Decorate Valentine Cookie Cake

To decorate the cookie cake, I made a yummy vanilla buttercream. To do so, I beat the butter in the bowl of a stand mixer for about 3 minutes.

After Decorating Cake

Then, I added in half the powdered sugar and continue to beat until evaporated into the butter. Add in the remaining powdered sugar, salt, and vanilla. Then, add one tablespoon of milk or cream in at a time, until mixture is light and fluffy.

Cutting Valentines Day Cookie Cake

I used 2 tablespoons of heavy cream. Also, if you are using the red food coloring, add it in now until you achieve a light pretty pink color, or a darker red color, whatever you prefer!

Finished Valentines Cake

To decorate, add buttercream into piping bag and decorate cake to your heart’s content. I actually have a piping gun that I use instead of a bag, and it works quite well! If you’re interested in one too, I will link one similar to what I have below.

I just added some icing to the edge of the valentines cookie cake, and then topped it off with more sprinkles!

To store leftover cake, you could go ahead slice it all and place in an airtight container. Or cover the entire cake with plastic wrap, which is what I did. Cake will keep for about 3 days at room temperature.

Valentines Cookie Cake Slice

Enjoy Your Valentines Cookie Cake!

Well, if you love regular cookies as much as I do, then you will definitely love this giant cookie cake too! It really is the sweetest treat you could make for Valentines Day!

And like I mentioned above, you can make this recipe any time of the year really. This would also be a prefect treat for Easter or Mother’s Day coming up!

This cookie recipe has the perfect chewy texture and mixed with the sweetness of the buttercream on top, it is the perfect combo!

If you try to make some Valentine’s Day cookie cakes this year too, let me know how it goes for you below! And I hope you all have a Happy Valentine’s Day my friends!
